Hazards work, Turn signals dont... HELP

So like the title says, the hazards work, but the turn signals dont.

From what I've read so far they are both on the same relay, so that eliminates the possibility of the flasher relay being bad. I have tried 3 different switches and none of them have worked. I also measured the OHMs and I get 1.7 for both left and right, anyone have any idea what this number should read? And if its the switch, is there any way I can open up one of them and look at it to determine if it is bad? And if it is bad, are they fixable?

The CPU flasher board can still be bad as the Hazards use a different input than the turn signals.

Check the outputs from the turn signal switch as they enter the CPU... that will tell you if the switch is bad or the input to the CPU.

Well, I have the FSM page on the turn signal switch, I already checked the TIG prong with the SR prong for Right, and the TIG prong with the SL prong for Left. I got 1.7 for both. Do you know any way to check the switch with a multimeter?

Icemark 06-22-06 11:49 PM

at the flasher plug on the CPU, the Green/Red and Green/Yellow will have voltage on them when the ignition switch is on, and the turn signal switch is in the either left or right position (only one will have voltage at a time).

With the Turn signal switch in the off postion there should be less than 5 volts on each of the two wires

Awesome ill check it out in the morning and let ya know how it went, thanks a lot!

Icemark 06-23-06 12:06 AM

I do have rebuilt turn signal boards on my webstore if it turns out you need one. It's a lot cheaper than buying a whole CPU.

deltr0n` 06-23-06 02:30 PM

On the plugs to the board its the one on the very bottom right?

I found the G/R and G/Y, neither of them have past 1 volt with the ignition on and the switch in either left or right position.

deltr0n` 06-23-06 03:10 PM

Does that mean the board is bad? because the switch is not getting the proper voltage?

The hazard and turn signals are on different fuses. Check the 15A TURN fuse.

That was the first thing done...fuses are fine.

I had the same EXACT problem with my car. It turned out to be a short in the wiring somewhere. I took it to a mom and pop garage when i couldn't figure it out myself. Only costed like, $60. Although, I got fed up after weeks with no lights, so.

deltr0n` 06-24-06 06:55 PM

Well it worked before, but with a different switch. Im going to try and test my switch on another car, see maybe if its the switch. But i've already tried 2 other switches, 3 including the one I have now, and none of them are working, so its hard to believe its the switch.

SimplyComplex 06-24-06 07:18 PM

Again, i had the same problem, and did the exact same thing you did. I bought 3 switches and 3 relay boxes from junkyards before find out that it was definately not the problem.

deltr0n` 06-24-06 08:02 PM

which is why im going to try it on another car, if it works, then its not the switch.

Icemark!!! I still need your help!!

So, ive replaced the switch a number of times...
and I replaced the wiring harness that goes from the large blue plug to the 2 switches in the surround.
Now when the key is on, and I turn the signal to I think its the right turn position it makes the beeper go off like it does when the door is open.

I dont get it...

Icemark 07-18-06 12:07 AM

you have the wrong harness in for the light switch/turn signal.

You gotta use the correct series harness for the switch.

deltr0n` 07-18-06 12:33 AM

but the headlights and knob to open the headlights work fine... the one I bought was supposed to be an S5 one.

Icemark 07-18-06 12:40 AM

Do the turn signals work correctly and the high beam work correctly???

The headlight switch itself wires the same regardless of series.

Its the turn signal/high beam switch that wires entirly different.

deltr0n` 07-18-06 10:05 AM

Turn signals still dont work, other than the beeping when its flipped to the right signal, and the highbeams dont work either.

Do you have any diagram on what color wires should be in what pin on the plug? Because I have 1 harness which was always on the car, and I also bought another which was supposed to be a S5 harness.

Is it still possible that its the flasher cpu? I just want some darn signals!!

Icemark 07-18-06 11:27 AM

Unless you have a 90-91 convertible the high beams are not related to the CPU.

However the CPU may be the problem with the turn signals as well. The Hazards working however, pretty much rules out the CPU being bad.

But since the high beams are not working, and neither left or right is not working, then it screams the wrong harness to the switch being used.

and no I don't have the wiring diagram, however it can be found in the FSM links in the FAQ for FC.

and if you can't find the S5 wiring, you can pull up the S4 wiring, and see if it matches what you have. If you have a S5 switch and the wiring matches a S4 manual then you know you have the worng harness.

When you switched harnesses was the turn signal plug wired the same on both harnesses???

jgrts20 07-18-06 07:42 PM

had same problem 2 years ago +/- bought rebuilt turn signal from Icemark and replaced mine. Never had a problem again.

deltr0n` 07-19-06 12:56 AM

I spoke with the person I bought the harness from, he says to check it on the blue plug side... if theres no empty slots its an S4, if there are 1 maybe 2 empty its an S5. Im gonna havea looksee, if its an S5 im gonna buy a switch that I know 100% that it works... whihc would be your rebuild one icemark!
