Having a shop do my TII swap, how much did you pay?
Yeah, I’m pussying out and having a shop put in my JDM 13BT into my S5 GXL. I’m curious how long it took people to do their swaps labor hours wise, so I can figure out how much money I should keep on aside for labor. The guy whose doing my swap is pretty familiar with FC’s, but he’s never done a JDM swap.
Even better if people who had shops put in their engine could put up how much they ended up on the labor bill that would be great. Thanks. |
figure somewhere in the ball park of 30 hrs labor x $ 80 - 95 /hr for labor , i would guess at least $1,500 - 2k , just always prep for the worst, plus u need to know about shop supply charges, tax, etc ... always get a quote !

Yeah, get a quote first so you dont end up losing your car.
I had never done a swap before and had no problem putting an s4 engine in my 88se in about 20 or so hours of actual work. Now, It would definately take a lot less time. Its all about experience. Some of my lunatic fc associates have pulled an engine balls early, rebuilt the engine in the afternoon, and had it in the car running in the pm of the same day....... so it all depends. s5 is plug and play though, i have heard.... so no extending tps wires etc.. Get all parts first, so you dont get overcharged in that category by the mechanic. Get the "" first though...like jreed said. john ny |
I got a rough quote for 2500 which I thought was pretty high. The shop has a pretty good reputation. The guy has been racing fc's for a while so Im sure he knows them like the back of his hand. I think he didn't realize that the swap is pretty much plug and play.

If he doesnt know about the swap.... i dont know if he should be in the business of doing it.
So 2,500 + 2,100 dollars for the engine and drivetrain setup.. afm, boost sensor, ecu, new pulsation dampener....bla bla blah (best case scenario). Plus 500.00 for the car That is 5,100 dollars for just a stock running t2....... and questionable compression/ seal condition. That is way too much for a stock unknown mileage t2 with great compression. Rethink your shit. My advice... Buy some tools.... grab a cup of coffee, read the forums and save a lot of money. john ny |
I wouldn't pay anyone! Find some local guys, buy some beers and food, and get it done. We swapped an engine in my friends car (3 of us total) in 30 degree weather in one night. That means taking the blown motor out of the good car, the good motor out of the totaled car, and putting the good motor in the good car. And we started it. Not bad :)

Ouch. What a waste. I would find a reputable member locally if you can and have him do the swap for much less. He'll put in more effort, probably have more experience with these cars and pay more attention to detail. You'll end up learning how to do it yourself too.

I know Tennessee is a ways from Mass., but Kevin Landers, from Rotary Resurrection, has posted on his site he will do a turbo swap for 1k bucks... assuming you already have all the parts necessary to do the swap.

I actually live in sunnyside NY and work in the city so finding a place to actually do the work is a big problem for me. I would try to attempt it myself but I'm not quite sure how to get around this situation. How do other NY enthuisats get around this? |
do it yourself :icon_tup:. i did mine in a week and a half and that wasn't even working on it all the time. save yourself the money. :icon_tup:. i've dealt with harder swaps and this is a drop-in swap.
