Have a chance to buy a FC3C.....

Hello, all, I am a newly registered member as of today and was hoping maybe you guys could help me out

A relative of mine is currently driving a black '90 Rx-7 vert (black interior) with a few modifications. He just installed a new AM/FM radio with a CD player, as well as brand spanking new tires. The exterior and interior of the car are in very good shape, with some minor fading on the leather seats and some knicks on the dash, nothing too noticiable. The body of the car is in excellent condition, except for some plastic that needs to be replaced underneath the back lisccense plate.

The car has about 100,000 miles on it now and he will be driving it for the next year, so I'm guessing it will have around 170 by then. He's looking to ditch it though next winter, so do you think this would be a good pick up for me? If so, what do you reccomend in terms of pricing? If it iisn't worth the trouble I'll probablly try investing in maybe an MR2 or perhaps an NA6C maybe..... Thanks for your help :bigthumb:

If it's an N/A it will probably last past 170... but there's a chance of it dying at any time at that point... at which time you'd need a rebuild, with replaced housings... possibly rotors... it could end up being a very expensive rebuild, one worth ditching in favor of a used Jspec motor even.

But other than that it sounds very good... I'd say it depends on how much you trust your friend to not screw you on how he's treated the car... ill-treated rotaries bite you in the ass... but well taken care of ones are great.

No, he takes very good care of his rotaries. He's owned both an 85 N/A and an 88 vert I believe, as well as an Rx-8 as of recently.

I'll look into it, btw how much may a rebuild of the engine cost aprox.? :)

Ok.. First and foremost, it's "FC3S"...

And for your question, i would pay between $1500-3000 depending on the condition overall.

Rebuilding the motor will cost quite a bit, but it depends if you are a DIY guy, or if you want to have someone else do the motor.. Chances are it will cost atleast $1500-$2000++ (depending on who builds the motor, and if you port it or add many many other extras..)

Here are a few websites to give you an idea of pricing a rebuild

Many other places.. try searching and you will find more..

Good luck..

Sorry, I didn't mention it, thought I did, but it is a convertible, so no it's not an FC3S

Thank you for those great links though, he said he'll give me a real good deal on it, so if the engine ever breaks down I might have the cash to do so. :bigthumb: I have around 5gs now.

Lol, a convertible is still a 2nd gen FC.

*sigh* Yes I know that, I'm not stupid. However, is the 2nd gen RX-7 convertible not an FC3C? Because if I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me with the proper terming, as I have searched and everyone else here seems to call the verts a 3C as apposed to the 3S

Well, in all reality I'd prefer a T2 but the convertible is good for cruising, as well as for the ladies :D j/k
