has anyone used one of these cnc throttle bodys

im asking because i wonder how it will hold idle in the cold ..
its from rotary works.com...
because theres no thermowax

Why do you want that?

coxxoc 12-13-10 07:09 PM

I drove a three rotor with one of their throttle bodies on it. It was a little hard to get a smooth off idle low throttle input. That could probably have been remedied by retarding timing at that part of the tune, though. Warm up was no different than any other no emissions car. You have to hold the throttle open to 1500-1800 rpm for 15 seconds or so at start up before it would idle on its own.

The machining on the throttle body is nice and looks great in the engine bay.

i just want some info on it, if its good ill get it..if its no good you know the rest

satch 12-13-10 08:58 PM

Besides not having the fast idle cam, does it allow for a BAC?

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...+throttle+body

misterstyx69 12-13-10 09:04 PM

1 Attachment(s)
It allows For NOTHING.
it is just a Throttle body, set up for the FD TPS...ya,even the FC TB is setup for the FD TPS.
here is a pic of the FD Throttle body on an FD upper,on an S5 FC keg,,IN an FC!.
the FD TB is 90mm and the FC is 80mm.
It is good for HI rev's,,but in Town you really have to be easy on the old Right foot..(soft light weight on the pedal).
If you get excited, the car will get squirrelly, without you even Meaning to do it!

I wonder how many topics we'll have about these throttle bodies? It would be nice if the manufacturer would include some data on their website.

There won't be any gains unless you are exceeding the capability of the stock throttle body, which is somewhere around 600HP.

By using this throttle body, you eliminate the progressive throttle which makes tuning low load, low RPM and idle difficult.

Since no one would be crazy enough to try to use one of these things without a standalone, cold start should be no issue because the standalone will be handling that via the BAC valve anyway.

dennis blackstone 12-14-10 06:43 PM

thats true there site does not give much info

Ya.that is right.,.NO Info..just "ya wanna buy it..press Cart".
...
there is no Cold Start system of any kind that can be hooked up to use this Throttle body,So Beware!
I spend at least 15 minutes IN the Driveway warming up before I can get anywhere without the car dying at the first Stop light...Then again my car's ECU is not Tuned For advanced Fuel.
it is just sitting on 720X4 (RTEK 2.1).
.I hate to Say it BUT I like the Throttle body,as I like the acceleration after 3k.It is Nice and smooth, and I noticed a difference compared to the regular FD Throttle body.
I'm keeping it on the car,so I am gonna be finding ways to have it Interact with everything else.
I'll have more time in the spring to do that,The car is under the tarps, sleeping until Better weather.

PvillKnight7 12-16-10 01:30 AM

good info.

Aaron Cake 12-16-10 02:17 PM

Just to elaborate further, running one of these things with a standalone will not cause cold start issues because the BAC valve can be programmed for cold start and idle regulation. The BAC will easily take over the function of the old thermowax.

Also, be prepared for much higher fuel consumption. Because of poor air velocity at low throttles, the primary injector PWs will need to be ramped up to compensate. And much more acceleration enrichment will be required.

dennis blackstone 12-16-10 06:43 PM

i dont think i could deal with waiting 15mins to warm up my car
im sure theres a way to rig something up

wjk0817 12-16-10 07:14 PM

wow, didn't even know there was a new tbody we can purchase, I went through 2 tbodys from local people for stable idling one. How much waz it?

issue being alot of guys remove their BAC, and do not know how to properly cold tune

$375 USD.
Here.

and Dennis: My car is Untuned.I am sure you could get this Thing to operate with a aftermarket ECU like Haltech.
Check to see if they can run with an FD TPS.as the TB is only setup to run an FD TPS.

You won't have to. A 15 minute warmup is just plain crazy, and I'd consider such a car broken.

Your standalone will be able to use the BAC to maintain a cold high idle for the first minute or so, then regulate the idle down to normal levels via closed loop operation.

Aaron.Maybe you are Missing this..my Car is UNTUNED..not Broken!.
I stated this earlier.
The car has an Rtek 2.1 on it for an ECU,and the only settings that I have done are for the Injectors.(and the ATP).injectors are 750X4 on the 720 setting.
I am in Mid-stream of changing injectors out,But the setting is OK for now.I don't go Lean, and it gets me From Point A to Point B,without issue.

sharingan 19 12-17-10 01:06 PM

I would love to see some numbers on this thing.

If the stock TB doesn't start to become a restriction until 500+ hp it would stand to reason that this would be a waste of time, money and convenience anywhere below that point.

However you (misterstyx 69) assert that it has made a noticeable difference in acceleration. If it helped to increase the total area under the HP graph (particularly down low) I could see how that would be the case. A simple stock vs RW tb swap on the dyno could provide some useful information and rule out the "butt dyno calibration factor" lol. I'm pretty sure Rotary Works won't be conducting any research. (either before or after product release if their v-mount "kit" is any indication)

Rob XX 7 12-17-10 03:28 PM

I would get it just for the cool factor

You can't adjust the bac duty cycle with an rtek. maybe in the future....

You Can't make 500rwhp on the rtek, and you won't need the thottle body at anything under either.

dennis blackstone 12-17-10 06:52 PM

well ive ordered an haltech sport ..and havent got it yet...
so im still looking for some one who has it tuned ..with nice start up and idle ..if not i wont even bother

we are all curiuos but theres no data

jjwalker 12-17-10 06:54 PM

Smoothing out the transition in the throttle body opening is better than wasting money on this, and that's free minus time and some sand paper and tools.

Don't waste your money unless you are building a race car.

I was referring to dennis blackstone's post. But his Haltech will do the job just fine of idling the car cold on the BAC.

Still no point in this throttle body for almost all street applications. I had someone who wanted to give me one and I refused. Having tuned a large single blade throttle body on an RX-7 before, I can say don't bother unless you are into BIG power territory.

dennis blackstone 12-18-10 06:33 PM

looks nice ..but looks like problems

for the fd and fc.....

Rob XX 7 12-18-10 06:48 PM

i thought it was for a FD intake?
