hard top "coupe" vert ideas

Hey everyone i was wondering if anyone has welded on a hard top to a vert to make it a "coupe" i know all the cars are technically coupes but im looking for ideas to build a vert hard top like my buddies here in vegas and was curious if anyone else has experimented with this at all? your buddy might be one of the only people to actually finish it- lots talk about it

why not just ask him for some advice?

basically take a vert, and body form and weld a top on thus creating a normal coupe with a trunk instead of a hatch!

I've had some pretty long conversations with him about the idea and how he did it, basically a lot of man hours and innovation. This was a post mainly looking to see if anyone else had really tried something like it and gathering a collection of ideas and possibly starting my own project on one. I had no idea that his car was basically kinda rare.

woaah nelly lol ive never thought of making one into a "truck" so to speak but Ive got to give it out to the man who built it. I kinda hate it, but i kinda love it. I'm looking to keep my trunk though so i would have to start with a vert shell as my base model:)

I don't believe you...lol, you had to know that was a unique car.

Whoever did the work seems to have done an outstanding job, it appears to have coupe doors and at least the jamb from a coupe as well, basically a very extensive mod.
If it has a working rear window defroster (which it actually wouldn't need), I'd elevate him to godhood.

haha well he did say that hes heard of a couple but wasn't entirely sure on how many there were.. And this car is basically what got me into rotary vehicles, all of the work ive seen him do on his cars is top notch and 100% custom. But sadly no defrost on this one, full drift car w/ lexan back window. Still so much put into detail. His IG: Strangeangle

If you want glass you start the project with the glass in the metal frame from another coupe car and you work the angle back into the FC roof to make the glass the right height.

Thats what a hot rodder would do because custom curved safety glass made to fit is very expensive.

If you are OK with plastic make a wood mold of the opening cover it in soft cloth stretched over it and gently heat speedglass till it sags onto the mold. Too much heat will give you bubbles. Be very patient.

Just a wild guess, but looking at the shape of the hole I'd check if Miata hardtop glass fits in there

Brrraaap 11-15-22 05:54 PM

Just curious has anyone ever tried a Miata hardtop to see how it fits?

BLUE TII 11-20-22 04:38 PM

It fits

Holy crap I remember reading a thread about this a long time ago... not sure if it was this one.

Don't quote me, but I think a couple of people I read about who did this used "notchback" 240SX rear window glass (S13 Silvia is the same?)

Again, don't quote me- I have no idea what glass was supposed to go in the above car. There are several cars out there with a similar shape and curvature. Good luck in your search for the proper rear window.
