Hard Starting
 

Ok this isn't your typical hard starting issue. What happens is that you can hear the starter kick out and not spin. The starter is brand new. I first had thought it was the starter so I took it back to have it tested and it kicked and spinned just fine in their tester. Now on some days I can click it like 3-5 times and it will start. But this past week it doesn't even try anymore.

Ok so I thought maybe its the battery. Had it test as well as the alternator. The battery was a little on the low side 11 volts. So I hooked it up to one of those over night charger things. Got the battery up to 12 volts and still the same thing. So nope battery is just fine.

The only way I can start the car is to jump it with a another car. And when I do jump start it always turns over in the first key turn. Its almost like the starter isn't getting enough voltage.

Any ideas? Because I'm about to take a :Kill1: and sell this thing in pieces.

Your battery is probably shot. It should read higher than 12 VDC if fully charged. What does it read with the engine running? I think it should read about 14 VDC. You may need a new battery, but before you do, check the grounds and all the connections and the condition of the cables/wires.

With the car running it reads 14vdc just fine. With the car not running it reads 12 vdc,
that is read with a DMM. No like I said that battery is not shot because I can throw in a brand new battery optima red top and get the same thing. (I work for the company that owns optima so I get them at cost)

When attempting to start the gauge drops to around 10.

When the car is running it is not reading battery voltage, it is showing alternator output.
12V should start the car, sounds like you have a bad cable, either the possitive going to the starter or the ground.
