Half Swap thingy

So recently while in my endeavors working at a repair shop a guy came in and on the way in saw my '88 sitting out front. He asked me about it and yada yada he got to the point and told me he had a '88 T2 with blown apex seals and that was all that was wrong with it and that he had no use for it and that he would sell it to me for $700. Well of course I bought it because I thought it was a great deal. Now I plan to swap the drivetrain, turbo system, and the intake and exhaust systems from it to my n/a '88. What I want to know is what all im gonna need to do, because its never as simple as switching out a few parts and boom turbo. So please tell me what all i am getting into. I have a lift and tools via I work at a repair shop so thats not a problem. Thank you! Also Im gonna need the ECU from the T2 as well. Probably the entire wiring harness.

this question gets asked a LOT, a search might be more helpful.

Depends on many factors. Just a few are:

- condition of your NA and trim level (i.e. does it have 4 or 5 bolt and other factors)
- condition of the TII
- do you wanna do it right, or half assed

I know many will disagree, but I usually am against swaps, because most people take short cuts and end up with small issues parts from different systems. I'm too picky I guess. In terms of wiring, a buddy changed all harnesses, including behind the instrument panel. More work, but not one question about fixing wiring was needed. Even though just a few wires/pins need to be switched, I like it this way.

Basically, if the TII was in good enough condition, I'd loose the NA and use the money to fix the TII.

Keep in mind there are many subtle differences in various systems between the NA and TII. I know this is vague, but that's why the other poster said to search. Download the FSM and Parts Fiche for our cars, and compare the different versions (NA 4-bolt, 5-bolt, TII) on the parts diagrams. Look at calipers, master cylinders, brake boosters, drive shafts, differentials, trannies, sensors, fuel pump, springs, shocks, etc..

ill give you points for not just asking "can i swap it" like all the other new guys... you at least understand you will need to do things, the first thing i would do though, search this forum, and do some reading. its been covered too many times

See, i wanna keep my N/A motor because i have a bridgeport and racing rotors and bearings and better apex seals and all that, so it has poor naturally aspirated power than the TII. but i do realize im gonna need to fabricate things and create feed lines and what not, i have read the Aaron Cake write up, and thats not a problem, i can do that, and i have a lot of help, so the work isnt gonna be the problem, i have a vehicle to drive while my Seven is being worked on.

How come you don't put the BP in the TII and build from there?
