H3 bulbs in S5 fog lights

the only bulbs that "fit" are the ones from a mazda dealership. and run around $20 each.

standard H3 bulbs run around $2 and come in different watts and colors (although I wouldn't try a higher watt one) stock is 55w.

stock bulb has 2 prongs on the back.

H3 has one wire with a prong

the bulb fits in the exact same way. close the metal hold down tap.

now take a spare preice of short wire. put a small ring terminal on one side. and a spade on the other. (using the wire from a spare or bunt out H3 works great, just gota add the ring)

ground the ring using one of the scews in the case

and put both the spades into the cover part

don't let them touch each other, you'll blow the fuse at the kick panel (done once :D) so be creative on where the wires are facing when you stick the cap back on.

oh ya and removing the screws that hold the fog light into the car SUCK ASS!!!! LOL

have some new ones handy. if you manage to get them out. they will be damaged.

I picked some new ones up from the hardware store that have a socket head so next time will be better :)

and lots of anti seze

I think they are 8mm?? I can't remember. I just went down after I pulled them out and matched them

Thats exactly how I did it. I was just too lazy to post a writeup.

Good job Scott_89t2.

I completely agree on the screws that hold the fog in. I could only loosten them a few mm, then I just took a dremmel and a drill to them.

whoa i bought those bulbs and didnt know how to connect the ground wire because the stock bulb had two wires coming off of it...time to go to autozone and buy me new bulbs...

maybe you can post a pic of the foglights in action... good write up

yup.... the screws on the foglight are dead and the foglight housings are held via zip ties to the car.

the other screws are rusted and seized. There is no way in hell they are going to come out

Once both bulbs burn out... the fog lights will be yanked out.

i just broke mine out since the rusted screws stripped, and drilled the screws out.

Nice write up, I think we should have another forum on this site for 'How to dos' I think that'd be extremely helpful to people.
