GXLII: back to the engine (update)
 

Well, for those of you who continue to follow my owngoing soap-opera known as my GXLII will be interested in the new news. The car runs beautifully now, idle's good (around 1K as it was suggested to run it a little high for the first 500 miles or so) But there is a problem :( The front rotor has decided to lube itself up rather well and is filling up with oil at an immense rate :( I'm not sure what's the cause at the moment, but the front rotor is pushing oil out of it like a madman. I at first wondered if it was just left-over ATF, so I pulled the turbo/manifold off and found it was my oil that was burning (thus why it smoked for hours on end). Anybody have any ideas as to it's cause? Could my bypass oil valve (inside the eccentric shaft by the pulley) be causing this to happen? Or is it my front rotor's oil seals all shot to hell? Back apart the engine shall come :(

You know what we're gonna say.. There is only one thing between the oil & combustion - the oil seal. Sorry

Yeah, I know everyone's going to say that, but that doesn't mean I want you to say it still ;)

Why and for how long did you put ATF into the engine? If the oil seal was marginal before, it is entirely possible that the ATF killed it.

Actually, I just put these damn seals on, so I'm thinking I may have screwed that up. The ATF was to get the compression up to par for it to start (as it was pretty low because of just putting the engine back together, I didn't quite measure how much went in, but I know it's not as much as I have coming out :(

Hm, that's too bad. :( I guess the engine will have to come apart...However, one suggestion is to use regular oil instead of ATF to do the initial start...It's a much nicer substance than nasty old ATF...

so you built the motor?? did you put new rotor oil seal o rings in? did the rotor oil seal springs lock into the groove? did you put the rotor oil seal in backwards? maybe the engine ate something and scored a side housing. any one of those could cause oil burning

Damn, i was thinking of doing my own rebuild bc i cant afford a new block or have someone else rebuild one for me... but.. this scared the hell out of me. Hmm.. i think ill still try. let us know how it went man and what you did wrong if anything. good luck
