Once again for tose of you who didnt see the post before here's the problem. I just finish putting in my motor and gearbox In my 1987 turbo II Rx7. Everything is 1987 turbo II, And I know the motor is a good motor because It came out of my Best Friends car. Just to get that out of the way. I'm getting spark, plugs and wires are new. Car Cranks but does not turn over unless i spray a little starter fluid in the upper intake manifold. Then even after it starts it shuts off within 3-5 seconds. Now understand that I am extremely new to this rotary business, da only way I got my motor and gearbox in the car is because i can read. LOL. But seriously my car has a walbro 255 lph fuel pump, hks fcd, hks supermega flow intake, brand new clutch i just put in the car alone with the motor and gearbox, 2 1/2 inch exhaust piping from turbo to stock barrells. My car has no ac, no power steering, no air pump, no abs, no heat. Oh and if it helps, I know that my fuel pump is working. If you could help me out with my car I would greatly appreciate it. Also guys my afm is plugged up. Also if its the injectors that arent working I want to know what wouldn't make the injectors not work. Thanks Alot.

Sounds like you're not getting fuel. I'd pull the fuel feed line off and turn the key on to make sure you're getting fuel to the engine.

I am gettin fuel from dat line, i checked already. sorry bout that.

check for +12v at the injectors, and make sure the injector ground is hooked up (injector ground is a black wire with a ring terminal that goes on op of the rear rotorhousing.)

pull the fuel RETURN line off, make sure youre getting fuel. the feed line doesnt matter, because you can get fuel there with no pressure.

are you sure the timing is right?

have you taken out he plugs and smelled them to make sure youa rent getting any gas?

the injector ground is where??? like from where is it coming from?? i mean which part of the motor?

not quite sure on where exactly the ground is.


However, I did an engine swap with an 86 N/A into a 1st gen and it displayed the same signs as yours. Good spark, Good timing, Fuel going into the lines, good power at the injectors (which you haven't determined yet), AFM did have a short in the wires going to/from the fuel pump cut off (which kept blowing fuses and had me stumped for a few days), but wired the pump to run when the key was in on/start.

My injectors were stuck closed! Pull the CAS (make sure you mark where the teeth were when you pulled it and check the timing once you put it back in), turn the key on, and turn the cas wheel (on the bottom) by hand, and you should hear the fuel injectors click. It's hard to miss the sound if they work (especially when the only other sounds are the coils sparking and fuel going through the lines) You can stick a peice of emmissions hose in your ear and put it next to the injectors if you have trouble hearing. If you don't hear anything then they're probably stuck (or you don't have power to them, but I had already found I did). I even went through the trouble of making a mini injector harness out of an old wiring harness I had laying around, just to make sure my wires/ecu weren't fubared and hooked it up to those injectors, and then to a spare set. The spare set worked. I pulled the old injectors and put my spare ones in. Put the manifold back together and turned the key. It started up in less than a second!

Injectors are grounded through the ECU. The ECU grounds at the back of the engine and in the passengers kick panel.

Sure you don't have the fuel lines backwards?

hey icemark ive been wondering about this for a while, is the ground on the rear rotorhousing a dedicated ground for the injectors (IE the ECU switches ground directly from there), or is it just a general ecu ground and as long as its grounded somewhere else it doesnt matter?

demahfahbun106 the ground wire comes out of the harness where it crosses the rear rotorhousing, its like 2 or 3 black wires that go to a ring terminal, and it is supposed to bol to one fo the holes that kind of stick up out of the rotorhousing.

Fix this first! The Air FLow Meter (AFM) is integral to the operation of the engine. There is a mechanical meter in it which tells the Engine Control Unit (ECU) how to operate the fuel injectors. If it is "plugged up", the ECU thinks there is no air flow, thus it'll provide no fuel.

I think he means plugged in, not plugged or stopped up.

actually the grounds on the engine are more for signal reference for the sensors. By placing the grounds on the block the senders are less likely to have false readings.

ok, that makes sense. i had heard from quite a few people that that was a dedicated ground that the ecu switched the injectors to. glad its not true, since that seems kinda dumb to me.

that was my first thought.

did you check to see if they were in the wrong position?

the car will crank, fire up for a second and die..

i tried switchin da lines but da same thing. it wont start unless i use the starter fluid but den it dies. I will try that harness ground as soon as i figure out where it is. thanks

What all did you take out of your buddies car? Did you put the whole long block in the car? Just thinking maybe you have the wrong imp. injectors or something...

I am having the EXACT same problem as you. I found out that my tps was waaay off and that my afm and maybe the wires going to it are no good. Try checking the throttle position sensor and air flow meter?

Guys i'm not smelling any fuel wat so ever. but i kno fuel is atleast passing thru the filter.

You got all the wiring harness connectors hooked up down at the ECU? I think there is a total of 5 if i remember correctly.

Where the ECU numbers the same?

try checking the ecu for error codes. theres a writeup on how to do it using 2 leds on teamfc3s

the ecu is plugged up. Its the right ecu for that motor and car. I even have to ecu's i switched them over and over and still no difference. i', really getting fed up wit this car. I'm 18, in skool and working, i have no time really but i cant give up i love these cars. My car has been parked up since july. because i have no time. Somebody, Anybody, Help.
