Gutted vert hardcore...Guess how much weight is shaved off

Anybody want to guess how much weight i removed before I weigh? my vert went on a major diet, and im going to take pictures and what not later.. and weigh all the shit as well. But here is what I have done.
Removed AC (all lines and components)
Removed PS
Removed both door panels
Removed ALL carpet and insulation and sound deadening
Removed all the plastic from the back.
Removed Jack from trunk, along with spare tire, wood panel, and all plastic panels from back and in trunk
Cut out metal tire mount (angle grinder)
Removed top motors
Cut out metal Mounts that the top motors were on.
Cut out two metal panel brackets.
Removed center console

You can see straight back into the trunk if you look back.
That about sums it up, i have a big ass pile of crap in my garage. Im going to have a SC'd drift vert.
feel free to guess weight, ill post official results later.
Comments/questions/flames?

where is the style in a vert gutted to that extent?
well, whatever floats your boat, or guts your vert...........

i say youle have it down to 2700, with 1/4 tank, no driver.

gutted interiors just arent my taste on street cars. especialy verts.

good luck tho

Hey, it looks suprisingly good for being gutted, i like it. And i like the way the road sounds when im driving in the rain (no sound deadening) I painted it with a dark grey rustoleum, ill post pictures later like I said.

I've had all this stuff in and out before doing stereo work and it weighs hardly anything. Even all added up it won't weigh enough to make a noticable difference in performance. All removing it will do is make the car look like ass. I'll bet 90% of the weight removed was just from the P/S, A/C and roof motors.

Wrong.

Wow, NZ, you are way too hostile towards weight reduction. Removing the interior does make it look like ass though, that is true.

rotard 04-14-04 04:04 AM

Remove bumpers and gut doors!:)
Air pump? Stereo? Aluminium hood? Fiberglass fenders? Light wheels?
Windshield?
An ultralight vert would be cool.
SC will add back some weight, though.

mike.

Forget where I got this pic, but it looks frickin' awesome!

Not hostile, just realistic. I mean c'mon, it's mostly thin plastic. I hardly struggled with it's weight. :p:

Bukwild 04-14-04 08:22 AM

Yeah I have dropped some weight in my vert. But when I did a t2 swap I just added more. But you started in the right place with the doors. Yeah I kept power steering but dropped the radio. I am not really that worried about dropping weight anymore. I can just run more boost with a better turbo if I need to makeup for power to weight ratio.

does it handle/accelerate/decelerate better?

sub9lulu 04-14-04 09:16 AM

we need PICTURES !!!

man sounds like its ALOT of work
so you are going to have top up all the time ? whats the point of having a vert
if you going to have the top down tho, be sure to have a rollcage to be save ;)

Travis R 04-14-04 09:48 AM

I agree, probably about 2700 lbs.
The vert seats are probably 50 lbs. each.

Vert seats are 35 lbs each, not 50.

Lol what are u talking about? who says im going to have to top up all the time, and why would i need a roll cage more than before? :S im gonna take some pics today once i finish the car.. I have two jobs so its pretty hard to get anything done. I can lower and lift the top easily with my hand, and much faster to.

Thats frickin awesome, looks like a go-cart or something, would be a blast to drive.

Bukwild 04-14-04 11:11 AM

my new seats going in my vert are 11.5 lbs each. But they won't make up for the weight of the roll bar. So its loos a little and gain a little more each mod

End3r 04-14-04 01:10 PM

Which seats are those? 11.5 lbs is awfully light.

JunpoweR 04-15-04 05:31 AM

WHO Cares to Guess
But hey
Im going to make my 1990 TURBO II
weigh 2400 with me in it =)

Bukwild 04-15-04 07:20 AM

carbon fiber race seats are 11.5 pounds

Bukwild 04-15-04 07:22 AM

and like someone already said. Add a roll bar. Its just safer. Every vert car should have one by law.
