The GTUs and I had a little fight last night and she won!!
 

Last night when I got home I was in a down mood, from work and such. So I decided to get some more work done on the GTUs -> TII conversion. Right now my focus is getting the engine bay cleaned up so I can prep and paint it. I figured it would be good to get the brake booster and the main engine bay harness out (drivers side).

I took out the brake booster with no problems. But the wiring harness fought me. Following wire after wire, pulling the fuse box out of the way, and being cramp underneath the dash, the GTUs made it obvious that she did not want her harness removed. So I guess I am going to clean up the wiring and cover it up with painters tape. She won this battle but not the war!! :)

Tell me your experiences with pulling out the drivers side wiring harness. Am I the only one that has been defeated and just left it in?

dude pull the dash if you're gonna pull that harness, in the long run its better.

I don't know about you, but I'd just stick a garbage bag over it, and tape it up. A hell of a lot easier than removing it in my opinion. :)

but dana wants his car to be nicer than rarest :D

Good point, those two have one hell of a complex going over those cars! :) Not possible to just pull it through and hide it inside the car without fully removing it is there? Never really done anything with that harness before.

that harness is a pain in the ass.

YES, I didn't know you were swapping motors also Dana!! Kudos...we go w/ the garbage bag method at the shop each time we've painted the Z's engine bays...But if I remember correctly your bay didn't need that much TLC, it was pretty clean :) What kinda setup will you be running and who is building your motor? Mr. Kevin Landers has my complete TII motor slated for a fresh rebuild and streetport. from there it's all my current stuff and an FCON (old school) for fuel control and a walbro. gonna run stock injectors, IC, turbo to start...I'd like 230rwhp w/ this setup

I removed the harness when I painted my engine bay. It made things a lot easier in the long run. I had the dash off and all of the interior harness detached and piled up in the driver's side footwell when I pulled the engine side of the harness in. I started by detaching everything starting on the passenger's side of the bay and working my way around the front. I ran everything back to the firewall (to basically a bundle of wire in the engine bay), and then worked it through the hole in the firewall. Just be very patient and don't pull too hard. The wires are old and can be brittle. When you come to a large connector, you may have to push it through the hole from the engine bay side instead of pulling it through from the inside.

Yep I don’t want to remove the dash. So looks like lots of tape and garbage bags!! :)

- Jon88: I am rebuilding the motor. Not sure about the set up. At first when I was planning it I starting investigation stand alone EMS’s, big-oll-tubos… It got out of hand, it would cost to much and not be street legal. So I have toned down the idea and at this point I would be happy with a stock set up. And yes it needs more TLC then you all think. The previous owner was not very nice when he put in the brake fluid and my drivers side frame is paint less.

but u have a roll cage :) u think a ride in your boosted 7 will prompt kevin for a TII swap as well? you guys should add your cars to www.teamfc3s.org/forum members cars. There are some nice FC's out there...I just added mine last night, lots of pics - I think the HID pic is my favorite...they are BRIGHT. My username is Z-1 performance on that site...(shops name).

Yeah, you mean like this. A leaky brake master cylinder caused this one. A previous owner didn't catch the leak until it was too late, and then tried to cover up the damage with spray paint. It looks much better now, but I don't have any new pics yet.

I can't wait till the engine bay is done. It is just so nerve racking taking 3 million things out. I am starting to run out of zip-loc bags, and my sharpie marker that I use to label them is getting low. Plus all those little plastic clips are old and heat-treated and no matter how nice I am when I take them out, they are so brittle they break. I will be going to Mazda soon with a ton of those plastic clips, and drive the parts person wild finding each part # in the micro fiche :D.

230rwhp is attainable w/o the fcon. Just get a mbc, fcd and a walbro. Set it to 10 and you are done. Just noticed you had a SP, youll be over 230rwhp.

so what should i expect w/ the FCON...i hear it REALLY pushes the stock injectors to the limit (this car is gonna be quiiiiiiiick)

Damn, I found it rather easy to remove the harness from my TII. I disconnected all the plugs, and had my brother gently tug on the harness as I fed the plugs through the firewall hole.

What's yer problem? :D

I must just be a lazy bastard :D
