GTU wheels

i always thought that GTU wheels (baloney cutters) were 15". but for some reason i measured my wheels today and found that thhey were 16" in diameter. funny enough they also have the number 16 on them. what info do i have wrong?

what tire is on them? if the tire says anything 15, there you have it. i believe the lip may extended further, but the measurement may be on the inside. thats a complete guess. i'm not a wheel/tire guru by any means. (i'm not a guru for anything, though)

The wheel itself is almost 16" in diameter, but the tires mounted on it need to be under the lip and are 15" tires.

Just like if you measured 17" wheels, they would be 18". Again a half inch of tire (per side) needs to be under the edge of the wheel making them 17" wheels rather than 18" wheels.

wheels are measured by what size tire mounts, not by the wheel size.

And you can see that mounting a 16 inch tire on a wheel that was 16 inchs in diameter, there would be nothing for the tire to grip onto.

Might be a TII wheel. Very bologne cutter like.

1. the wheels youre referring to are the GXL/Sport wheels, the GTU had the same wheels as the TII

2. they are 15s. the stock tire size is 205/60/15 <---

ehh... not true. on s4's n/a's had balonga cutters or phone dials(4lug) and the TII's had the 7 or 10 spoke eh... dunno what to call those.

on s5's the GTUs and the turbo II shared the same rim. All n/a's had the same funny looking rim.

and of course all verts of any year have the bbs rim

the part that says " the gtu had the same wheels as the TII"

Agreed. The S4 TII wheels are better known as "saw blades". And the GTU came with the same wheels as the GXL regardless of year. The GTUs had S5 TII wheels.

nonameo 10-31-04 11:12 PM

oooohhh saw blade I like that!

VietFC 10-31-04 11:13 PM

S4 TII wheels are now officially deemed "saw blades"
