Then allow me to bow in respect to your integrity and I hope you find what you are looking for!

I try to keep an eye out for S5 Turbo II’s and GTUs in my area. I’ll let you know if anything pops up on my radar.

Also: Keep an eye out for those GTUs viscous LSDs! They are not the strongest and tend to break. Normally I would suggest ditching the viscous and going with a Miata torsen, but in your case you might need to consider having a spare. Especially if you’re going national!

I would definitely carry a spare diff.

Thanks for keeping an eye out... hopefully one of us will find something usable!

Is there a way to find out if a fc is a gtus by the vin or some other way they had 16" wheels. But mine has a moonroof the Guy I bought it from claimed it was a gtus. And it has a limited slip. It also has very stiff suspension.

Check to see if the rear diff is a 4.30:1 ratio. Only the viscous diff had this ratio. The other differentials (which are superior clutch-type diffs) don't have this ratio.

stevensimon 10-08-09 01:59 PM

this guy here has a GTUs and wants to do a turbo swap since the engine is tired. im sure he would be willing to sell if someone offered something

You can call Mazda North America customer service at 1-800-222-5500

Give them the VIN and ask them to tell you about the options the car originally came with including trim packages etc.

I did this about 2 years ago myself.

The quickest way to ID a GTUs? The door sticker lists the stock tire size. The GTUs was the only NA with 205/55 R16 tire from the factory. If it says 15" tires, then you've got a fake.

89_Rx-7_GTUs 10-08-09 02:26 PM

I think I will call Mazda it will be easier.

how is reading off your VIN number over the phone easier than checking the tire size on the door jam? :p:

wozzoom 10-08-09 02:37 PM

The door jam sticker is also a give away for all those NA to Turbo II conversions since all Turbos had 16" rims.

DrKillJoY 10-08-09 02:42 PM

+1 on those door sticker tricks.

The only benefit to calling Mazda is you can get a heads up on any other options the car may or may have not been equipped with.

Funkspectrum 10-08-09 02:48 PM

There's a GTUs for sale here in my area IIRC...

I'm certainly interested. If you could get some info, that would be appreciated.

At first glance, he doesn't look too motivated to sell, though.

DrKillJoY 10-08-09 03:01 PM

$1100 bucks - http://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/1403295272.html Boulder, CO @ this price it's nearly worth towing back to MD.

Here is another one in SC http://columbia.craigslist.org/cto/1374875032.html

Awesome.. If I didn't have a REPU and Turbo II Convertible projects going on I might have jumped on that one myself. :D

Barring any major issues, looks like I'll be picking up that GTUs in Colorado. It's a black '90 GTUs. VIN JM1FC3311L0709452 . Started pricing out the rebuild parts through Mazdacomp. Things sure have gotten expensive since I last did this (11 years ago last month).

It'll probably be a couple weeks before the trucking company can get the car to me, but this should be something fun to play with :)

Very cool! I can't wait to see some pictures of the car and possibly even some build up details of the car.

Do you have a shopping list?

I'm about 45 mins to an hour from both Columbia, MD and Winchester, VA. (I live right around the corner from Malloy Mazda.)

If you want, I could go and check it out some time, take pics, and it won't have to get shipped all the way up to NY, then all the way back down here.

rex3 10-17-09 10:08 AM

I'm in Virginia now, and the car is at my brother inlaws garage just sitting. I'm not sure if I want to start another project at this time will know in a week. If I were to do this car it would be turbo just seeing how rare they are I'm debating going that route just sell her to someone who would appreciate her.

Yes... an extensive (and expensive) one. But at least the car was fairly cheap, < $1000.

My buddy out in Colorado looked at it for me and said it was remarkably clean. High miles, but all there, all stock and not a spot of rust. And it runs great. I'm arranging shipping at the moment. Hope to have it in a couple weeks.

Going to start by rebuilding the engine and learning as much as possible about ECU upgrades. :)

pfsantos 10-20-09 12:41 PM

Can someone shed some light into the following. Ad for the car in Colorado said something about 1 of 10 in Black...what's this all about?
