greddy profecB specII question
 

for those of you with a profecB specII, i am having some problems...

i have a hybrid stock turbo: to4b wheel inside the stock housing (bnr stage1 or2?) racing beat full exhaust, streetport, 3"TID, and the profecB2. we were out tuning the profec for a while tonight and got it to shoot right to 10psi very quick and hold there, but in the higher rpms (above 5500 or so) the boost rises rather quickly. its not like a slow boost creep in 5th gear... its about 1.5-2 psi per second. and no matter what i do with the EBC, i cant get it to stop. its only at the top of 3rd and 4th gear, and i havent gotten up fast enough in 5th to test that.

does anyone else have this problem? and more importantly, is it a hybrid turbo problem or a problem with my EBC? the boost stays at 10psi (via my profec setting) for the majority of the rpms, but in the higher rpms, it just climbs...

Play with the gain settings. This controls how quickly the solenoid responds.

HERE is a great writeup on how to tune the Spec 2.

Also like RR said, and as per the Manual: "If boost falls of at high rpm, increase the GAIN adjustment by 2 increments until it stabilizes"

No boost controller in the world can cure boost creep. You simply don't have enough wastegate flow to properly control boost.

there is no way my s5 wastegate can be THAT crappy, my s4 TII (no wastegate porting) didnt creep this bad...

I'm not sure if it's exclusively because of creep, you should try just connecting the wastegate actuator straight to the compressor outlet with no solenoid in the loop, and go boost it in high gears. If it still overboosts beyond the wastegate spring setting uncontrollably you know it's creep, get the complicated electronic device out of the equation to eliminate it as a cause.

Isnt that motor ported too? You may have to take that hot side off and see if you can port the wg more.

Yah. Boost controller can increase boost, but not lower it. You sure you have a BNR? He does serious wastegate porting on his hybrids so it seems like you shouldn't be creeping that much.

i'm gonna port the wastegate this weekend, get an AEM wideband, and run 15psi. hopefully all these fuel system mods can handle it: 1000cc secondaries, aeromotive FPR, k2rd fuel rail, walbro255, stock primaries.

yes i am aware that boost controllers do not make your wastegate bigger.

and no, its not a BNR, i just use that as an example. its a to4b wheel machined into the stock compressor housing, so kinda like a BNR stage1.

Well it's hard to know you're not talking about a BNR when your signature says BNR stage 2.

i just took my profecb specII off, and ran a vac line straight from the compressor housing to the wastegate actuator. EXACT same result, but more lag now with no boost controller. i am thinking that maybe the actuator is kinda stuck or the flapper isnt opening all the way...

Don't you think you should change your sig to reflect the truth? It's a bit hard to offer someone advice based on BS info.

Put a bike pump or some other source of pressure onto the wastegate actuator nipple, and see how the arm moves under pressure. If you disconnect the arm for the actuator (little C-clip) so it can swing freely you'll see it's it's jamming somewhere.
