Greddy BOV. ERRR!!!!! Cheep internals, failure

Well I am pissed about my RS now. I had the spring tension all the way down, I wanted to turn it up some. I broke the retaining 10mm nut lose then went to titan the tension. I gave it a half a turn and the allen bolt jumped 1/4in out. WTF? Well it looks like the internals are cast aluminum and the threads pulled out.

So now i have a non adjustable fully lose spring tension 250$ BOV.

Does anyone think greedy would replace it or should they or you hate greddy or no one has had this prob.

I actually had this problem on my type-S. I bought it from a forum member (won't name, names) and it was like this from the get-go...

To even get it to 'stay put', I had to angle it into the side as I was tightening and kind of cross-thread it, other-wise it'd just pop out like you're describing.

If you want to fix it, I would simply re-thread the 'hole' using a "tapping" tool (or whatever) and just get a similar allen adjustment screw at home depot (to match your new threads).

I bought a new Type-S and don't have any problems with it.

I was planing on runing two BOV's and using 2 type RS's but now I cringe at the thought of spending 750$ on BOV's b/c my first one simply faild due to cheep internals.

Yea I was thinking of taking it apart and retap it but still pisses me off. Paying for name brands for the RND and to help suport the process and you get crap in return.

How thick is the casting?
Can you try and Heli-Coil it?

This is not one of those GReddy "style" eBay units, right? :)

Oh no Ted I only buy the real things.

I have not tore it apart yet. It sliped all the way back but not out, it aparently has a flanged end b/c it does not pull out of the housing so I titend the lock nut down and test drove for boost leaks, non at all so I let it be for the night.

If it is large enugh that is what I may do drill tap it for a heli coil.

Maybe you had it "tensioned" to the max and continued some more without realizing causing the allen screw to back up and screw up all the threads.

it happned to me in my greddy type s i use a 1/4" tap and bolt a nut at home depot and it worked great havent had a single problem and since the 1/4 tap is a hair amount bigger it gets a good amount of threading in and wont have it strip on you again...

coat the bolt with mold release and then with JB weld. After the JB dries you should be set.
