GPS Tracking
 

Hey all,

As I start to finalize my build (5.3L LSx, TC76 turbo, Granny's 8.8" solid axle, etc.) I've been starting to work into the finishing touches.

One thing that has come up a lot recently is stolen vehicles (if you're a member on Yellow Bullet you know what I'm talking about). Even though FCs probably aren't high up on the list of cars people want to steal, I am pretty open with my car and a lot of people know how much time, effort, and money I have into it.

I WILL GET collector insurance on it and have it insured for what it's worth. But nothing would piss me off more to go out to the garage one day to find my car missing, or worse yet come back from dinner on the town and have it gone.

Basically my plan is to have a cutoff switch for the battery that I'll use regularly. But the pros aren't really bothered by that. I've been thinking about getting a lithium ion powered tracker and putting it between the gas tank and the rear of the car. That way it's not easily detectable and since it'll run off of battery power, not prone to the loss in power. I am fine with charging it every once in a while since the car is only driven for a few months a year.

Anyway, what do you guys use or hear of others using?

i was thinking the same thing, and i found this. it has a charging system with it. so set it and forget it. i think that it needs a sim card from t mobile or something. but hey its better then having a missing car

GPS does require a SIM card and a service plan.

That I am fine with. It just seems like everyone talks about these kits but it doesn't seem like anyone ever buys one let alone has to use it (not a bad thing obviously).

they are known for their GPS Snitch product. They changed the name of the product but still provide the same service.

In another thread, I posted how GPS snitch tracked my friends stolen Integra to the thieves house, and we called the cop.
It tracks really well, my friend installed it deep in the dash of the car. It uses GPS and Cell towers to accurately track cars, so if you are in the coverage zone of the product, it should track it well.

Havent personally used them or know anybody that uses them, but they are apparently good.

yes, its like lo-jack. Its almost the same thing, its just that other GPS trackers, you track it yourself, and has customizable features such as perimeter zones, sms texting and such. The good thing about lo-jack is that almost every police department in major metro areas is partnered with lo-jack, the bad thing about it is the price which is 2-3 times more then other trackers.

The primary consideration between GPS and LoJack:

GPS is much more precise as to where you car is located.

LowJack works with a radio signal rather than GPS, so can still locate your car even if it's in a parking garage.

Police can dial in to both once they're so inclined to actually do so.

but they might get shot at or something! just kidding, i don't envy them for the job but someone has to do it. generally speaking it's nice to know where your shit is on your own in case it comes to that.

C3 is nice but it is expensive. My alarm is c3 capable, but you have to buy a module separate which costs $600. so buy the time you pay for an alarm and the module and get it installed, your looking at around $1000.

edit after looking at how much lo-jack costs , c3 just became afforable lol
