Got the 86 to start.....got ?

Now guys I got it to start one thing something is burning and it smell like burnt wood or could it be from the exhaust modifold. I also need a gas tank and is there anyone from jersey who might have one or know someone who has a extra to sell. One more thing now that I got this car to start, what should I look out for.

Is this a rebuild? If so, you're going to smell some funky things for awhile. How bad is the tank? Most can be cleaned, although if there is rust/ corrosion beyond just surface it's probably trashed...

Not a rebuild just a car that has been sitting for a long time before it was given to me......the reason for the gas tank replacement the orginal fuel pump was replaced and the screws were so rusted I had to drill out the heads off the screw so what ever is left from the srcew is hard to grip and take off the tank and the pump is just sitting there on top of what is left of the screws.

If the inside surfaces of the tank look O.K., it can be reused after a good cleaning...If water has been in there for a while you will see surface oxidation (rust) below the water "bubble", this can be easily removed if accessible. Don't forget you should have a drain plug that will make life a whole lot easier. As long as you didn't screw up the nutplates, if you can remove the remainder of the pump panel screws, the tank should be good in that regard...Apply some anti-seize paste (at the local auto parts supply) to the new hardware when reinstalling...As far as the smell, ???
