does anyone have this?

boostedfc3s 03-14-07 02:03 PM

I don't know about that one, but I bought one off of e-bay that looks exactly like that one and it is the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned. I ended up taking it out to put the stocker shifter back in until I get a known good one like name brand one. Haven't decided which brand to get yet though.

same shifter i got but i got one for a maita same shifter they just sell them cheaper

karack has a write up for it here: miata short throw shifter writeup

it bolts right up you just got to get a bushing and shave down a lil plastic piece. i'm pretty sure you would have to do the same for that shifter to but i could be wrong

sik7ven 03-14-07 03:19 PM

me and 2 of my boys bought them and they work fine, the plastic peice at the bottom jus needs to get sanded slightly and it works great, but most likely that thread on the shifter wont allow the stock knob on.

boostedfc3s 03-14-07 05:23 PM

maybe I just got a bad one from them cause I went through the whole procedure of sanding the bushing and making everything just right also and it just didn't want to shift smooth at all.

dawicka2 03-14-07 05:27 PM

Yup, exactly as sik7ven said gently shave bottom eurathane bushing and you should be straight. I like the feel of it much better than my broken stock shifter.

You may have to shim your bushings to get the pivot ball seating nicely.

RotaryEvolution 03-14-07 09:49 PM

also try adding some thin grease to the bushing cups, it helps with the stiffness of the shifter and the other thing i failed to mention in the write up is the notch on the upper bushing needs to be aligned with the pivot pin in the shifter extension.

cooliomo 03-15-07 02:22 AM

so i can take any 90-97 miata short shifter from any ebay vendor and it will work with the write up in the archives

cooliomo 03-15-07 10:40 AM

correct!?

someone446 03-15-07 12:13 PM

I have that exact shifter
It works ok, but I had to grind down the bottom ball a little to make it fit

25$rx7 03-15-07 03:03 PM

i have the same one i did the grind down the bushing a bit and i got it to fit but the only problem i had was the rattling and the bolts rattling out of the holes so i got some real good lock tight and and have not had a problem yet i like what i got for the money

Does the ebay miata shifter have the same threads as the S5 cars? M10 x 1.25?

RotaryEvolution 03-17-07 03:27 AM

yes, same thread as an S5 but the S4 threads are larger so for those S4 guys you can't use the OEM shift knob unless you get some sort of insert made up.

Mutaku 03-17-07 08:34 AM

I wouldn't get it because it says jdm in the ad.

F1blueRx7 03-17-07 11:38 AM

And I wouldnt buy the mazdatrix one because it's 192 friggin dollars. Who cares if it says JDM in the ad, the things work just the same for 1/5th of the price.
