Good Premix containers - 16oz bottles
 

I was thinking of the best container to hold my premix, i was thinking soda bottles, but since S4s are ~16 gallons, i was wondering if another type of soda bottle, or soft drink that comes in 16 oz bottles?

Anyone know of any?

i use a redline bottle, i believe it is 16oz but i can't even remember anymore, i just fill it up about 3/4 and add 12 gallons. it has a nice tapered neck and is clear with markings on the tag but once you use it enough you know all the gradients. the spout goes all the way down into the filler neck so it won't spill. :)

Evinrude sells their 2-stroke oil in 16 oz containers. They even have 2 oz graduations on the side. I put two in a plastic bag and keep them behind the drivers seat. Works for me.

actually the redline bottles are 12 ounces, i usually fill up when im at 1/4 tank though. i like the design of the bottles though, not messy at all just stab it in the filler and reuse the bottle. the redline 2 stroke oil is great if you ever are hard on your engine or race at the track also.

Penzoil 2 stroke oil, the bottle is a 16 ounces; and you can get it at kmart & wal mart :)

I use brake fluid bottles and a funnel right now. They're 12 ounces, and work well since I usually only put less then 12 gallons in my car (right when the fuel light comes on) and adding 16oz bottles every time was causing it to chug after awhile.

BTW, is there any chance that premixing can cause your motor oil to develop a fuel stink to it? My oil seals seem to be fine, because I do not burn any oil, and the only place I'm losing it is at the bottom crush washer on the oil cooler (it's ~4 drops a night, lol). The oil is pretty clean after a month of changing it, but does have a fuel odor to it, but doesn't light up when you take a match to it. :shrug:

my point was there isn't many bottles with a tapered neck that can fit into the gas filler neck without a funnel, those bottles were almost made for this job. ;)

I use a redline bottle too. If you get the redline fuel injector cleaner those are 16oz if you really want that.

But I fill up at ~10 to 12 gallons so I've marked on my bottle where 12oz is.

I can see that, as all of their bottles are designed with the long funnel shape neck. I got a small (in diameter) but long funnel at walmart for less than $2, plus the less than $2 for the penzoil oil :bigthumb:

walmart supertech bottles are fine, 16oz and they fit the gas port fine

Some years ago, I purchased a brand of 2-stroke oil at Target that came in translucent quart bottles with ounces and milliliters marked on the side. I'm stuck at work, right now, and can't go out and get the brand name, but I'm sure others are on the market.

Although the gas tank is ~16 gallons, do you really want to run it to zero? That's living dangerously. I pre-fill a half-dozen bottles with 300 ml of oil (25 ml/gal.), so that I can plan to add it when I fill up at 1/4 tank. That gives me a little flexibility, if I need it.

well ofcourse i wouldn't run it to zero - but you do bring up a detail i ofcourse overlooked =)

so i should be looking for something more in the 14oz range...right?

Karack, Rex4Life and bDUB all have good solutions. I like the ones I'm using, because I can measure to adjust for when I overshoot the next fill up. If, for some reason, I want to fill up sooner, I can measure the smaller amount.

When Rick Potter and I ran the One Lap, he didn't want to carry any extra stuff, so we just had one of the bottles with the ounce and milliliter markings with which to measure at each fill up. Given the hectic nature of that event, this allowed us maximum flexibility and worked just fine. I don't do it in daily driving, because I don't want to deal with the potential mess of dripping oil. (By Murphy's Law, you're going to spill some whenever it will be the most inconvenient.)

Looking down the road, I plan to get one of the reservoir/pump combinations developed by the rotary aviation folks. It will be more convenient, but the plastic bottle is the most cost-effective solution.

Re-reading this post, I see I didn't directly answer the question. I always hate it when people do that. So...

If you want a dump-and-go solution that doesn't run you all the way to empty, then, yes, get a 14 oz. bottle. If your life is very routine (for example, you always fill up every third morning and always need 14 gallons of gas), this solution will work.
