good compression

what would be good compression for a N/A s4 rx7?
i have a cheap compression tester.
120psi sound about right? thanks

I think 120 is what they minimum was from the factory.

Santiago

thats higher than my golf
so about 140 to 120?

1987RX7guy 06-05-03 11:28 AM

You probably won't see that man maybe like 90-100

RX7WEEE 06-05-03 11:37 AM

90 psi, think about a rebuild?

1987RX7guy 06-05-03 11:38 AM

no actually that is pretty good I think. Most people get 90's or high 80's when they check their engines.

If you get down to 70's then start saving up and get ready for the problems on starting and such.

cool thanks

pillage6 06-05-03 12:10 PM

And I think you have to test the compression while the engine is warmed up.

CrackHeadMel 06-05-03 06:58 PM

I got 115 to 120 on all faces on my engine with 156k on the clock. It died a month later due to coolent o-ring failure

ViperKillerWannabe 06-05-03 07:24 PM

Like CrackHeadMel experienced, good compression does not necesarily mean the engine isn't gonna go anytime soon. There's still other things that can go wrong, such as the coolant o-rings.

Digi7ech 06-05-03 08:47 PM

Yes the evil coolant O rings.

Anyways From what I under stand 120 is like new.
90ish is pretty good for an engine with mild mileage.
75 and under be careful or get ready.

I've been meaning to check mine. I think mines bad cause I am pretty slow(16.9ish w/current mods).
