Glass moonroof on eBay, only a few hours left!

I'm not selling it, but I have one. They are very rare, and I have one on my car. Very cool. These were the best made, and direct replacement. Only a few hours left.

BTW: this is the 1st I've seen on eBay in over two years... (I bought the last one).

UniqueTII 06-12-02 12:33 PM

Dammit, I wish I had the money for that right now...my TII's moonroof is rusted, and getting a new one painted would be a pain.

ka8legend 06-12-02 03:26 PM

Does that bolt up to the stock steel frame or does the glass need special mounting brackets. The stock frame has provisions for draining water.

lbjimmy 06-12-02 04:22 PM

Just take off your metal one (unscrew it), and replace it with this one. Fast.

Don't outbid me you guys. =)

Hehe I was but then I needed to shave weight, hoping that the moonroof could do without the 20lb steel frame.
goodluck!

neofreak 06-12-02 05:51 PM

fockers!!

COsborne 06-12-02 05:53 PM

couple weeks ago I bought an 89 GTU with a glass moonroof...I specifically asked if everything was bolted down. When I checked, not even the hood was. anyway, the guy I bought it from towed it to my house. About 15 minutes into the trip guess what happened... the moonroof flew straight up in the air and smashed into a thousand pieces in the road....I was very pissed

black7 06-12-02 06:13 PM

I am sure the company pacific whatever doesn't make them anymore. Has anyone gone to a glass shop or somewhere else to see if they can make something similar?

black7 06-12-02 06:15 PM

4 mins before the end of the auction it was still $188 then within the next 2 mins it got up to $400 I knew I was out of it after the 400 mark. Did somebody off the forum win it?

asherwood 06-12-02 06:18 PM

holy shit!

$430.25 Is it really worth that much!!!

Nice, but not THAT nice...

CrackHeadMel 06-12-02 08:24 PM

HAH omg tahts crazy

BLUE TII 06-12-02 09:13 PM

Uh yeah, I bought that. I watched that frigger from day one on E-bay; I was pissed when I saw the thread pop up here :p:
Oh well. I asked our local glass place about making one last year and he told me it would be cheaper to buy a used $300-400 one as it is hard to shape and cut the tempered safety glass.
If I like the fit of this I will see about the cost of replicating it in glass and plastic since our sunroofs rust so damn easily.
Please don't be pissed if you got outbid- look in the sig for the thing of beauty it is helping to create. Ian

jesus christ that is one sum'bitch of a mod list !

tIIforever 06-12-02 11:00 PM

I've got a pacific sunroof (glass) from the junkyard for 40 DOLLARS!! holy shit i got of good with that deal. the gaskets were still good too.

Sniper_X 06-12-02 11:30 PM

I have freinds that work in glass.

I think that they can "slump" a compund curve like that and temper it all in one kiln.

I know they temper glass and slump.

So the curve would require a plate template, but i bet i could talk them into it!

You KNOW ill be checking into this.

vaughnc 06-13-02 11:16 AM

Yo Sniper X please do. I think the one on ebay works with the OEM sunroof frame right? If so, that shouldn't be too hard to workup :)

Sniper_X 06-13-02 11:29 AM

Thats what im planning, factory replacement!

UniqueTII 06-13-02 12:14 PM

I just realized that I can get pretty much any shape glass that I want for dirt cheap. Can someone give me the specs on the replacement? (not trying to steal your idea, Sniper_X, just want to check it out) What about the replacement would make it tough to cut/create?

banzaitoyota 06-13-02 12:18 PM

I just tried all morning to track down pacific t-top. All I could find was an inactive voice mail box :(

Sniper_X 06-13-02 12:37 PM

I would think that since its curved in two directions to match the roof, that it would have to be melted that way.

Also it have to be tempered glass (by law).

I intend to tint it a bit.

UniqueTII 06-13-02 02:01 PM

I can get tempered glass without a problem...I am just wondering about the curves.

vaughnc 06-13-02 02:04 PM

Yeah that's it, just matching the curves of the OEM metal ones.

I WANT ONE NOW!!!!! (along with the c/f turbo II hoods).

Sniper_X 06-13-02 02:10 PM

Well, the tempered glass cannot be slumped (melted into shape) once tempered.

Tempering of glass is when you form microscopic fractures in it.

The fractures are not noticeable to the eye at all, but cause the glass to crack into thousands of pre-determined tiny pieces.

This is whu it cannot be melted after tempering.
