getting swap done this week!

HI guys im getting my tii swap this week but i dont have a tii hood do you think my car is gonna overheat if i use my na hood and if is gonna close

Sir Rupert Hobo 09-28-04 09:17 AM

don't do it man... just wait till you can pick up a TII hood. simple as that.

PoderRotativo 09-28-04 09:25 AM

but they are working in my car right now.

Sir Rupert Hobo 09-28-04 09:38 AM

well, if you MUST do it don't push the car hard and make it temporary..

it's not good for the motor! do a search on this...

With no air flow, the IC will heat soak very quickly. When you hit 2nd gear - pingety pop!

For a temporary fix, run the waste gate hose directly to the manifold (bypassing the boost controller)
That will push open the waste gate at ~5PSI.

get on ebay and find one and get it 2 day shipped

TwistedRotors 09-28-04 10:31 AM

Definately do not push the car with that intercooler covered up. Just like everyone is saying, too much heat and you're going to ping.

Only if it's an S5 right? I would think moving an S4's wastegate boost source from the exit of the turbo to the intake manifold would actually make boost increase.

I'm getting my swap done this weekend too. I have a TII Hood on already, sorry I can't help. But I hope you get your car runnin fine. I wouldnt suggest rollin with no hood tho. And the stock hood wont fit.

SonicRaT 09-28-04 12:15 PM

drive without a hood.

YearsOfDecay 09-28-04 12:18 PM

Don't bother getting a TII hood......

I'd rig up the TII IC in a front mount position until you can get the funds together to put a proper FMIC in.

I ran mine without a TII hood for a couple of weeks. Just take it real easy..no boost!

What you would get is brief surges of high boost - AKA "boost spikes".

I agree, that makes sense. But I also think you would get an overall increase due to loss through the intercooler and intake.
Either way, it's bad news to run a TMIC without a scoop!

We're looking at something in the range of ~1 PSI, most of which comes from the cooling effect of the IC.

Did I read if the waste gate is ported?

PoderRotativo 09-29-04 06:46 PM

do you guys know were can i get a TII hood right now for a fair price?

marlaman 09-29-04 07:49 PM

just get a FMIC, it'll save you time and money in the long run and also have your intake temps reduced by a fair amount.
