getting an rx7...

I have been thinking about getting a 2nd gen rx7 for awhile, and i recently noticed one in the paper goin for 1350$. Its an 87 na with a little under 100k miles on it. Anyways, Ive heard alot of crap about rx7s. How the engines are finicky as hell, they go with as little as 100k miles, cost alot to rebuild, crappy gas mileage. Wanted to know if someone would give me the run down on this. Id really like to get one but... cant have something that i have to constantly put money into. at least, not at the moment.

Very fun cars to have. I'm not going to lie to you, it will make you want to spend money. Aftermarket parts, etc. You're wrong on one thing. They get pretty decent gas milage.

I don't know of any other car with 146 HP that's as fun to drive.
Also, I don't know of any other car with 146 HP that gets less than 20 MPG... :(

to be honest with you they arent that expensive to maintain. they are very nice cars and you will fall in love with yours. if i were you i would definately buy one because if you treat it right the rotary can last a long time and i think its cool to have an engine that many people dont even know a thing about. they dont get great gas mileage but who cares.

The reason you hear about bad engines is with the 3rd gen twin turbos, if not upgraded properly, and sometimes with the Turbo II 2nd gens. The N/A's can last pretty long on original engine, just change your oil, and check on anything abnormal (like on any other car)
