Hey guys. I've been following the guide here for rebuilding my motor. I just got my rotor bearings pressed in and I'm ready to start re-assembly. I was told by the guy at Autozone that they don't carry Hylomar anymore, and they doubt they still even make it. What would be a suitable replacement? I was told some kind of loctite but I wanted to check with someone on here first. Also, what the hell does he mean by aviation compression sealant? They guy in the video also didn't tell me what it was. He just says "brushable sealant". Does it really have to be a specific kind of sealant? If so what kind and where can I get it? Thanks !

i got my hylomar from atkins..as iv been told hylomar isint a deal buster just some good insurance.

i got mine from mazdatrix, seems like local places don't stock it.

A lot of people will use just petroleum jelly. Hylomar is very messy and hard to clean up. PJ is not.

You don't use the hylomar for seal assembly, that's what the petrol jelly or Crisco is for. The hylomar is a sealant that you apply in select areas on the housings and oil pan.

from what i got hylomar is used to fill microscopic dents and scratches on the housings.but its not needed just a good thing to have.and some of the top engine builders also use it to hold the coolent seals in instead of the jelly.

But just like the others suggested, petroleum jelly has been used for years with no problems.

A dab of gasket sealer/silicone/RTV will also do the job as long as it's "sensor safe" (won't corrode the rubber).

If you can't find Hylomar, don't use it. :) Just use petroleum jelly instead. Works fine.

Hylomar would be a very poor sealant for the oil pan. The pan really needs RTV. Hylomar is basically used to hold the big water o-rings in place during install, as well as a few smaller o-rings like those on the dowel pins.

Hylomar=for the large o rings and dowel pins rings...not to be used on the oil pan

Indian gasket not sure on the name but this name is close enough... its used on the front oil cover and the oil pan or one or the other... the container looks like a little brown bottle with a little indian on the front...great stuff excellent sealer...Can also be used for the water O rings and dowel pins
