GETTING A "FREE" T4 TURBO

I'm getting a free t4 turbo for a friend, who had to scrap is turbo dreams,(federal stretch), so he is going to give it to me free. Because im in need of a rebuild on my '89 im going to go with the t2 swap. My question is, would it be better to use the stock or go with the t4. Im not sure what brand or model #, but free is free.

MonkeyMagic 11-06-05 11:45 AM

better to use the stock and give me the T4.

BLK_KNIGHT 11-06-05 11:47 AM

right

SonicRaT 11-06-05 11:51 AM

Depends on what the specs are.

BLK_KNIGHT 11-06-05 11:59 AM

BLK_KNIGHT 11-06-05 12:03 PM

yes..do it..tune it..drive it and post it.

SonicRaT 11-06-05 12:25 PM

The specs of the turbo.

Parastie 11-06-05 12:25 PM

We need to know the specs of the turbo. A T4 only means the bolt pattern...well mostly.

Best case, you'd need a new turbo exhaust manifold, a downpipe adapter, and some way to adapt the compressor outlet to your IC (FMIC?).

Worst case, you need to get larger fuel injectors, upgrade your fuel system, and it's highly recommended to go stand-alone EMS.

I dunno if you realize what you're trying to do is not as easy as just "slapping the turbo on".

actually it is as easy as slapping it on... its getting it run properly thats a pain. none of it is actually hard, just annoying and costly

sweet, didn't know a T4 turbo fit on the TII manifold :pow:

another thing, besides the new manifold, will it need to be spaced out... maybe longer studs? redoing some charge piping, air filter location, injectors, and as RETED said STAND ALONE. but this all depends on what kind of T4 it really is.

i didn't mean litteraly slap it on. i meant figurativly, its considered a bolt on mod because you can turbo about any eninge and you dont have to have a huge sum of mechanical knowledge.
you have to be able to unserstand forums, and have your basic mechanics down. now as for making everything fit together and look nice and RUN (i could put a turbo on a junk yard civic by simply bolting the turbo manifold where the exhaust was) that dosn't mean it works or runs... my whole point was missed, i was figuring that if he had enough sense to swap engines, he would also be able to figure out there were diffrent bolt patterns, and a charge pipe woudn't line up.

i gotcha, sorry i hadn't had myafternoon chai. :p: alot of people come on these forums and really do think it's as easy as just slapping it on there. hopefully he gets it right :D
