gears and flywheels, are they all that they are cracked up to be.

Well instead of risking not passing smog by porting my engine, i have decided that i am going to look into flywheels and gears to acellerate a bit faster. Has anyone ever had good or bad experiences with aluminum flywheels?

As for gears, 4.30 gears have been recommended to me for my 91 N/A. Does anyone in here have gears and do they really help with over all accelleration. I am not too concerned about loss in top speed, i dont plant to be going 140+ again, but still, are they worth it? I am under the presumption that i have 4.10 gears in my rear end in as it is, is there really going to be a difference?

Will gears and an aluminum flywheel be that much better together?

Also, i was contemplating high flow cats. Does anyone see a difference with or without these, and will they affect my ability to pass smog??

THANKS!!!

you are correct about the current gears in your car unless you have a GTUs the already have 4.30's in them. I will be putting on a light weight steel flywheel here in a week or two (when ever it gets here and I have the time) I was also thinking of putting in some 4.30's. You know you can get bigger ones just cost more you have to convert something I can't remember what it was just check it out at the Mazdatrix web site. I know you will see a difference at the 1/4 but as far as seat of the pants difference I don't know.
