Gauranteed EMISSIONS PASS..such a thing?

Hey guys i recently failed aircare and want to get this thing insured asap ... I got a new cat and o2 sensor last year. i passed everything in the test (CO, NO, HC at high rpm ) but failed only HC in the idle test (and failed by quite alot)...what do u guys suggest i do....buy a bottle of the gauranteed pass stuff or what? thanks guys

Check the gap on your plugs first...

if there correct then i would retard the timing about 3 to 5 degrees. see if this helps. if not retard somemore. if you dod do this you might want to do it about a block or two B4 the shop.
your car might run like shit but it will pass.

the reason why your getting such a high HC count is because all of your gas isn't being burned in the combustion chamber. forget that other stuff.

You might wanna also check your CATS on your car. if you still have them.

TheBigOne 04-18-02 11:13 PM

never mind the cats i see you have them.

i've used GTP (guaranteed to pass) last june and it worked great. at least i'm "guessing" thats what did it. i took my 91 n/a for jersey inspection and also failed the HC level every so slightly. i knew i needed a new O2 sensor, but was in a hurry to get this passed and didn't have the tool to get it out.

soooooooo, i went and bought a bottle of the stuff, dumped it i a full tank...drove the tank to empty that weekend, filled up the tank again, went to the station...voila! passed beautifully :D

put a hole in the exhaust pipe so fresh air will mix with the exhaust resulting in lower emissions

ill have some of what he's having. :D

There is no such thing as a guaranteed pass in an rx7. The key thing is have both cats, and proper tune.

Is GTP available at auto parts stores?

just get some shabs

Try adjusting the variable resistor (rich/lean) screw. Only effects the idle mixture. Also make sure that the acv isn't dumping the air overboard at idle. Just pull the exaust hose off the acv to make sure it isn't dumping. That air is meant to go to the exaust ports at idle, not dump overboard.

uh dude i dont mean o rain on ur parade and all but have you ever looked at rx-7 plugs?

anyhoo my car did ithe same thing but failed on the driving thing since iwe dont have idle test. i toke it donw to about 1/8 tank of gas. basicaly enough gas to get to the station. but befre you do that go by a gallon of denatued alcohol. dump that in when you are as low as i stated on gas. drive hard to the place, get cat warm.

by doing this i lowered my hc reading from mid600 to right at 200 so it does a number. also dont worry about it hurting anything. all it is is a fuel designed to be urned indoors and such/clean burnig fuel. it says so on the box.

good luck

i use this green stuff exact one hundred of them. i have yet to fail :D

autocrash 04-19-02 05:13 PM

vosko: what... ohh... nvmind... haha.... ;)

RexRyder 04-24-02 03:50 PM

the only thing that would guarantee a smog pass would be to re route the pipes, and make it so only some exhaust exits out the tail pipe

HAILERS 04-24-02 04:06 PM

Someone on this forum wrote and said that there is a disclaimer on the guarantee to pass stuff. Something on the order of you have to have alll the emissions devices made for your car, working and on the car. I've seen the stuff at pepboys but never used any.

Remove the oil metering pump lines b4 you get to the shop for inspection. (Plug them with something in the meantime of course) This helped me... You can also try drilling out the cover metal over the air adjust screw. It is located under the intercooler (if turbo) and make it leaner by hand

autocrash 07-03-02 09:57 PM

ok... question.... I have the stock double exhaust... now if I were to take something, and restrict ONE side of the exhaust (the side I'm guessing he will test it on...) and make the other one look somehow uninviting.... (rusty nasty ass muffler or something... maybe just take off the muffler tip so that it's harder to see...)

oh, dammit.... I'm a dumbass.. this thing goes by concentration, doesn't it.... for fux sakes..... maybe I just take out a drill and punch a few ... "speed holes" .... :D

Terrh 07-03-02 10:10 PM

speed holes don't help, then you fail on the visual. :)

best thing to do:
dump about a gallon (to a full tank) of gas line antifreeze. Methelhydrate or something it's called.
GTP works well too. in piston engines, at least, changing the oil RIGHT before helps too, and make sure the engine is warm when it's tested.
hmm
an overdrive pully on the air pump might help too, get some more fresh air to the cat. Make sure plugs are good, if you have an S-AFC lean it out a bit (leaner is cleaner) and you should be OK

if you use GTP make sure you only have about 1/4 tank of gas and then drive around a bit so that you know you're on the GTP gas, not whatever was in the line. i.e. don't pour it in in the parking lot of the test station

try what i stated and ask dvst8-rx7 he also tried it and he said it worked like dream so read my earlier post, talk to him and try it. i gaurante it!
