Gauging intrest... how many people are instrested in rebuilt power steering computers

Would you be intrested in buying rebuilt power steering computers. I have figured out what parts go bad, and I am considering selling the rebuilt ones at my webstore.

Mark, what are symptoms of a failing/failed power steering computer? I know obviously if your power steering doesn't work, that is a definate indication, but it would be good to know what else, if anything, to look for.

thanks

I would be intrested mark... I would take one right away, just another thing i wouldn't have to worry about doing on my car before its ready for the summer.

Well, besides not working, a constant beeeeeeeeeeee... is a good indication that it's bad. Also, if you troubleshoot the different beep codes and find nothing wrong...

a constant beep from the buzzer? well my buzzer is no longer operational.
as for codes do you mean the codes you can check through the CEL on the S5? last time i checked i didn't have a power steering code, if there is one.

JamesBong 03-27-05 06:58 PM

no, the PS computer has it's own beep. It's not a buzz. And it throws codes by repeting beeps.

does my car even have a ps comp> it a s4 88 vert?

trochoid 03-27-05 07:41 PM

My 87 SE will begin to beep while sitting during warmup. It starts a minute or 2 after starting, as soon as I pull away from the curb and turn the wheel, it stops.

Is this a sign of a failing ps comp? If so I may be interested.

Actually there would be only be a beep if there is a failure on the 86-87 units... as well as all my rebuilt units

And never a buzz. Buzz, is bad... low oil, low coolant etc for a buzz

Schmitty 03-27-05 10:05 PM

Would this still make the beep/buzz if the belt for the power steering pump is off?

On the 86-87 units a warning even though there is no problem, or on all the others, not working when cold or warm, or steering boost being erratic (lots of boost all the time or a noticeable change in boost while driving).

cluosborne 03-27-05 10:10 PM

That sounds like problems I have on my 88 GTU. I'd be interested in the rebuilding service if it was offered, or a rebuilt computer. Would I be able to send mine in as a core?

If the power steering pump is disconnected, you would get a series of beeps until you unplugged the power steering computer

rotarynemesis 03-27-05 10:24 PM

where is the power steering computer located in a s5?

cluosborne 03-27-05 10:26 PM

I think the power steering computers for S4 and S5 are located under the dash, to the left of the steering column.

Yep, just behind the drivers dash speaker.

cluosborne 03-28-05 09:51 PM

I have some questions:

1. What would be the cost for the power steering computer?
2. Are you willing to offer a rebuilding service, or allow my original unit as a core in exchange?
3. Out of curiousity, what components typicaly fail?

jhammons01 03-28-05 10:01 PM

Mark, The answer has to be yes. (just not right now) The difference in I might and I will buy one is when the one in the onwers car stops working AND they price one at the Mazda Stealership. Once they get quoted a Bazillion dollors for a small chip they will come running to your door.

DC350 04-02-05 12:59 PM

Could i purchase one from you right now mark?

It looks like there is enough intrest. I'll probably have a good number for sale around the 15th of april, and will put them up on my website in the next couple of days for pre-order.

andrew lohaus 04-02-05 04:42 PM

nevermind, i dint think there would be much demand for these, but apperently there is.

Yes, but pulling the power steering system is a poor subsitution to the properlly operating system (and frankly a waste of time in my book- you gain nothing except a slightly cleaner engine bay and more steering effort at under 20 MPH).

And the power steering CPUs I have been seeing from a couple of parter/wreckers are much like the wiper switches, in that only about 30% seem to be working correctly when I get them.

SmokingClutch 04-03-05 09:43 PM

If a symptom of a failed computer is the steering staying at full boost at highway speeds and therefore being super twitchy, then yes, please.

I'll buy one today.

sub9lulu 04-03-05 11:28 PM

i just took the whole system out
drive it w/o PS, be a man !!!!
