Gaskets, Sealant and Confusion?!?

**1989 RX-7 GTU**

1. Thermostat Housing: With regards to attaching the thermostat housing to the water pump, my Haynes Manuel references the use of RTV Sealant and a Gasket. That's contrary to what I found when I actually removed the Housing Unit; Neither a gasket nor sealant residue!!! The Mazda workshop manual mentions nothing of a gasket or sealant. What Gives?????? If the advice includes the use of sealant, will "threebond liquid gasket 1104" be sufficient???

2. Clutch Master Cylinder: Mazdatrix said that no gasket is needed when I install the "Clutch" Master Cylinder and that silicone is all that's required. I'd like to do it right. The workshop manuel shows a gasket. Mazdatrix has no listing for it. Is it standard to locate?? (ie pepboy's, advanced auto, Mazda dealer etc).

Thanks,

(Hardening) gasket (usually RTV silicone) is used typically as a substitute for a gasket.&nbsp This makes the gasket optional.&nbsp It's up to the person if they need the stock gasket or not.

Well if I recall the 89 and up cars have a rubber O ring seal, which comes with the Mazda T-stat, for the T-stat housing and no other sealant is required.
There is a flimsy gasket at the back of the clutch M/C which has a Mazda part no H001-41-443.I do not know if they are still available
