anyway you can make your own gaskets out of quality stuff? (not that worthless cork gasket maker either) im talking about quality gaskets. since most of my emissions and stuff is off i find it useless to buy a full kit and not use half of it. anyone done this before?

I got a mixed kit of gasket material a few days ago to make a gasket noone carried (for a friend's 240sx). It had three different kinds of "fiber" gasket materials, one of which was for high temp applications. The fiber materials looked very similar to mazda oem gaskets. Anyway, I found it at Kragen. I'll take a look at the materials when I get home and post the actual names.

Okay, here it is:

Cork rubber material - The stuff you don't want ;)
Fibre gasket paper - Basically cardboard
Fibre and synthetic rubber material - This stuff is pretty similar to the gasket material used on the 6-port actuators.
Rubberized hi-density fibre material - Higher temp stuff, similar to what's used on thermostat gaskets and such.

Yeah, the part "NEA Gasket Material Assortment (10759)" is exactly what I got. Like I said, I just picked it up at a local auto parts store (Kragen in this case) for a little over five bucks (US).

Yeah, I get my gasket materiel at Checkers/Autozone/etc... Everytime I have to buy a gasket I trace it out on the gasket materiel so I dont have to buy another...

use this stuff if you like to get around paying too much for factory cut ones.
ive rebuilt TONS of carbs using the sheets, saves a lot of money in the process.
never have ANY problems with them (save normal carb rebuilding quirks)
i personally use the fiber ones. at least on carbs i have yet to see one fail, as the only rips in them are from me removing parts
(that brings something to mind)
if using the fiber style, be prepared to scrape and clean surfaces next time you pull whatever it is apart
