Gas, Temperature, Tachometer Problem

I installed a deck into my car, and then i started it up to see how much gas i had left but the gauge stay at E, and the temperature gauge never left C after driving it around for awhile, I notice my RPM's werent going up as well. Then i tried to turn on my fan and heater but that dosent work either.

All the lights turn on, car starts up, the deck even works but the other things dont. Any suggestions on what the problem could be. I check all my fuses under my hood, and in car. I might have missed something while checking them, but im gonna do it again to make sure.

The car is S4 Turbo II.

What do you mean shorted a fuse? Do you mean i blew a fuse, sorry im not good with electronics and there terms.

I forgot to mention my warning lights dont work, and I blew the audio fuse when i was putting it on.

yes I ment blew I'm sorry I just spent the past 4hrs changing the O2 sensor and had to make a new connection instead of the stock n shit and I wasnt thinking right....

check all the fuse's by the clutch on the left of it there be a cover and theres fuse's in the engine bay which I doubt any are blown

Checked the fuses in the engine and the one next to the clutch, had a blown meter fuse replaced but nothing happened. It just weird how everything stopped working at once especailly the heater fan, and warning lights.

just replaced the trailing coil with a well known good one, and my tach still dont work. Any suggestions?

I was having the problem with all the guages to the left of the speedo not working. I was blowing meter fuses left and right. For now, I have a yellow (power?) bare ended (former) cable wrapped in tape to keep it from touching the body. I think it was causing a short. I've driving it tonight for a total of about 15 minutes and everything has been working since I replaced the meter fuse. (Yet again) These problems are usually from incorrect wiring when installing an aftermarket radio. I could be wrong with that assumption, but most posts I've read about this problem have roots in the installation of an aftermarket stereo. Check to make sure that your cables are well insulated and your connections are correct. Getting a good multimeter will also help out with finding out exactly what kind of current and voltage your fuse is handling.

yea make sure not to use the all red wire that controls the dimmer of the radio :)

I've actually never used the "dimmer" wire until I installed an alpine deck in my wifes 96 toyota camry. But nothing went wrong with the car. Ironically, the deck doesn't dim when she turns the lights on, lol.

how did you install the aftermarket deck? Did you chop the stock wire connector, or buy an "adapter"? Does the deck have an on board fuse?

If you're not so familiar with car electronics, you might wanna see if you have a "friend" that has experience with car audio.

I've put aftermarket decks in dozens of cars, and although sometimes the deck turns out not to work right, I've never seen anything like this.

Awesome. That's the magical self-healing power of the RX-7. The RX-7 faries also come out at night and help her during her magical repairs. :)

The problem is not solved because it will come back at the worst time.

Pull the cluster and make sure that the two big connectors on the back are plugged in. Do the same with the logicon. Finally, check the "meter" fuse and fuse box contacts for problems.

^ Do as he says.

My car is doing the same thing. Only mph guage works and the lights work but no rpm ,temp ,batt or oil guage work .. I change the 7.5 (meter) fuse but blows it instantly... I made sure all wires in stereo bezel were all taped up and not touching.

Yes this fc has aftermarket stereo , but i dont know what wires go where or are not suppose to be hooked up (if any)
Any info is much help
thks jason...
