Gas pedal --- How to make more smooth?

On my 1991 S5 T2 I dont like the feeling of the gas pedal, feels a tad sloppy so to say, almost like its a tiny bit loose, but on FC's that ive owned they usually feel the same, semi sloppy till halfway then stiff.

My FD on the other hand, pedal is 100% Tight and smooth the whole push, no slack, which gives me way better throttle response, Half of this problem im guessing is because the S5 throttle cable is so ridiculously long, What can i do to make it feel more like my FD's pedal? What ways are there to adjust the stiffness and play?

Thanks!

Adjust the play in the throttle cable. Pop off the IC and there and two nuts that jam together over a bushing. Loosen them and take out the play, if you take out too much your idle will go up.
It's explained in the FSM, a link can be found in the FAQ.

Just as in brake lines, it ain't the length that matters it's what happens at the ends.
Throttle cable length is not your problem (assuming the routing is gentle).

Remove the cable, hang from one end and drizzle a good lube (I like TriFlow) from the top till it drips from the bottom.
Reverse ends, repeat...let hang till excess lube drips out.

While the cable is out check the pedal's motion, lube/adjust as necessary.
Similarly, rotate the throttle cam through it's range, make sure there's no binding.

Reinstall cable, adjust freeplay and hope you like it cause what you got is what you got.

Motor has no top mount so the tightening will be easy

Good idea clokker!

Thanks for the advice guys.. Will try both of those, im sure it will fix my problem :)

Cheers

That's just the way the pedal is. If you just touch it with your hands, you will see it's somewhat floppy and has some play in it, regardless of the cable. It was probably much better when the cars were new 20+ years ago.

Switching to an n/a throttle cable will improve the pedal feel by 100%

Hmm interesting. Ill give that a shot.

It does seem smoother since i lubed it up and tightened some stuff up.. Will see when i drive it though

You could also check that the cable is not flopping lose in the engine bay.

something I noticed too. Could be the spring is just that much tighter on the FD TB or the way it is routed. I thought the FD was stiff stiff IMO and the FC felt better.
