FUSE FOR GAUGES BLOWS AGAIN, AND AGAIN, ON DOGS 40th B-Day, Today. 1990FC3C, n/a

Took "Daphne" for a mountainous run today for my 40th B-Day. She's runs like a champ, but suddenly blowing the 7.5 amp fuse for the gauges, tach, temp, oil, battery (voltage). Thought I had fixed, found loose wire, and fine for a few days, but after driving really hard, fast turns, high rpms, etc. Have again, for the umpteenth time, checked grounds. At a loss. Anyone?

Thanks in advance, and I will tell you what, this car handles around corners, up and down, sharp, like nothing I have ever driven. The handling, and sheer ground hugging capabilities is beyond explanation. But don't like to drive with gauges not functioning. Only asking for failure.

pull the cluster and drive it, if it doesnt blow fuses then the problem is in the cluster, swap it out with another one.

Thanks Karack. Sometimes in the heat of the moment , my common sense is lacking. Let you know the result.

There are quite a few things on the meter fuse.

Things like the back up lights (tranny or clutch work done recently??)
Gauges
Clock/warning panel
CPU (body computer)
Aux Electric fan (turbos and auto tranny cars)
Mouse belts
Lockout switch on auto tranny cars.
Cruise control.

Anyone of those things shorted out; could blow the fuse. Were you having trouble with any of them recently, or make any modifications???

I dont know what the hell is wrong with your car but... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Ice, only work done recently, manual trans by the way, is put in new water pump, all new belts while I was there, and O-rings on oil filter housing. Noticed that I had knocked coolant temp sensor wire, but re-attached and fuse was fine then, after all work done. Forgive my ?, but "meter" fuse? Fuse I am referring to is the one by clutch petal, fuse box, never heard of it referred to as" meter " fuse. As far as all other functions, fine. Just oil pressure , coolant temp., and battery (voltage). Thinking maybe has something to do with coolant temp sens, but doesn't make sense. Will pull wire off, replace fuse, and see from there. Thanks, start where you last worked. Again, sometimes dog forgets!

Sorry Ice for taking so long to respond, 40th B-day celebration lasted too long, just came too. Exactly, the fuse that I keep blowing is the one that is 7.5 A shown in your photo, the one that says ROOM. Like I said, everything else is working, clock, radio , lights etc..

I'll keep checking, thanks again everyone for taking the time.

the room fuse i believe is for the courtesy lamps in the car, do they die when the fuse pops?

i will check the circuit diagram when i have a few minutes.

You definetly have more knowledge about this than me Karack, but I'm just saying that this is the fuse that keeps blowing. Maybe there is some direct link between this one and something else. I pulled every single fuse, including the ones in the engine compartment, over driver side tire/ main box , and this is only one going out. Have pulled battery terminal off changing fuse, and sometimes works for a while, less than 1 hour driving, and sometimes, it blows on initial ignition start up.

Like previously stated, RPM's, and battery gauge are insignifcant to me, I know the sound , and can check the battery, but fluids are always checked daily, but not while I'm driving, and in case of error, the gauge is obviously there for a purpose.

Sure that you don't have a 7.5 amp fuse in the Meter location??? That would kill the gauges

Mombodogs 09-25-05 02:11 AM

Ice, honestly, I'm not sure. I'm thinking you might be right, dark and late now, but I'm thinking that the fuse I've been replacing is the third one in. Hell with it, I'm going out to check now. Flashlight.

As always guys, you were right. I was assuming that the spare was, whatever, I screwed up. Yes , the meter fuse is the one for my gauges, and after replacing it, with the correct 15 amp fuse, all is fine.

Thanks again for your assistance, and really appreciate your patience with me.
