fuel and temp sensor, share what wire?

I've got a short somewhere... both my fuel and temp gauge run at about twice what they are. on cold starts, both shoot up to about double their real readings then when it gets warm they drop. (as if the gauge was disconnected). sometimes it runs just a little above the true readings. but they always do the same movements... is it in my gauge cluster? cold solder points? could it be in the ECU? can anyone help... this is the last problem I need to fix! really... until next week. thanks for any help.

They both share a voltage regulator inside the combination meter. And....see the wiring schematic in the 88 manual that is online. Look for METERS

ok I searched for a while and couldn't find anything. where is the combination meter? could someone tell me where it is?

ok I know what the combination meter is... duh.. sorry. is it bad? how do I tell if I've got to get a new one? can I just resolder it? the gauges still work just they read twice as much or 1 1/2 as much as they should.

Ask NZCONVERTIBLE or ICEMARK. They're electrical. I say it's toast.
