fuel system rewires, what blue wires where?

Hey guys, I had rewired my fuel system a few months ago (by the writeup on 1300cc.com) and it was working great. When I pulled my engine I was messing with the harness and I busted (crappy soldering) the blue wires that you cut and solder together where the resistor relay USE to be. We tried guessing, and when I jumpered the yellow plug I couldn't hear the pump. Does anyone know what striped wire goes to what? Thanks..

what year car? you should be able to find what color goes where in the plug in the FSM I think...

AreExSeven 09-15-02 01:21 AM

Hey Scott, since you scanned the whole thing. What section of the FSM is the engine wiring diagram in? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

the last section called "wiring diagram" :) it didn't get scaned :p: it's a book with fold out pages. to hard unless I ripped every page out. not worth it to me :)

that's a good point though. if he has an S5 he might need that :D

Lol, well that doesnt help me too much. Got a minute to look something up for me?

if you make it quick, going to bed soon

4 injector plugs on the engine wire harness
Each has 2 sets of wires.
One wire is the same on each.
Second wire differs.

Can you tell me to which injector each goes (ie Front Primary):

Light Green Wire w/ No Stripe
Light Green Wire w/ White Stripe
Light Green Wire w/ Red Stripe
Light Green Wire w/ Black Stripe

Thanks

AreExSeven 09-15-02 01:50 AM

89 TII btw

Scott 89t2 09-15-02 02:02 AM

Light Green Wire w/ No Stripe -- front primary
Light Green Wire w/ White Stripe -- front 2ndary
Light Green Wire w/ Red Stripe -- Rear 2ndary
Light Green Wire w/ Black Stripe -- rear primary

AreExSeven 09-15-02 02:03 AM

Thanks a ton!

Now go scan that thing!!!

Piranha 09-15-02 11:48 AM

Sorry, I have an 88 TII 'Doh!!!

Scott 89t2 09-15-02 02:38 PM

what colors do you have?

the 88 diagram (www.fc3s.org) shows the plug to look that this

L/R -- B/W - L/R
L----- G/R -- L

L=blue, r is red, b=black, g=green.

is that what you needed? to figure out where those colored wires used to go into the plug? so you can match it again? or are you trying to figure out which L/R goes to which L ?? looking at the diagram I don't think it matters. either way should work.

Piranha 09-15-02 02:47 PM

Anyways, I have been trying to guess which wires are which, there are 2 blue ones with red stripes, and 2 blue ones without. I hear the relay in the back click, but my fuel pump isn't running. Anyone have any ideas?

Scott 89t2 09-15-02 02:49 PM

as I said I don't think it matters.. but there are only 2 options. you tryed both ways? I asume the key is "on" when you jump it?

Piranha 09-15-02 02:50 PM

Hm... yeah, that is the plug wires. Sorry, I didn't refresh and see your post before the above post. trying to figure out with L/R goes to which L actually. Thanks for the help. I'm going to go out there and check some more stuff, like making sure 12v is actually getting to the relay.

Piranha 09-15-02 02:51 PM

Yeah, the key is on. Is there anyway to kill the low water thing temporarily? Its hard to hear over that thing, and I haven't put the turbo back on yet, so I haven't filled the cooling system.

Scott 89t2 09-15-02 02:56 PM

you could cut the wire and ground it... maybe you could unscrew the sensor and touch it to metal. or tape it so the thing is pressed in.

I don't think you could hear the pump over that thing LOL...

Piranha 09-15-02 02:59 PM

Lol, yeah, I'm putting my ear up to the filler neck with the gas cap off :) Well, the hoses aren't getting hard either.

I think I just found something though. The relay in the back I added is getting 12v, but there isn't 12v coming off of it.

Could this have something to do with the main fuel pump relay?

Piranha 09-15-02 03:04 PM

Also, the AFM isn't plugged in. I am lookiing at the wiring diagram for the fuel system, but I'm not too keen on reading these things. I do have the yellow plug jumpered though.

Piranha 09-15-02 03:17 PM

Okay, progress, I just decided to jump 12v over to the other side of the relay, putting 12v on the fuel pump resistor relay. The pump started going, and stuff started happening. So the main fuel pump relay is not turning on. Any idea how to troubleshoot?

if you don't have 12v at the "remote" wire, or comming off it it, then it's something in the main relay or wiring

plug bypasses the AFM, athough I think it bypasses the main relay too...

Scott 89t2 09-15-02 03:30 PM

the 2 wires you ran from the front to the back are still ok?

Piranha 09-15-02 03:34 PM

Hm... I'm going to check around the fuel pump relay, then the main relay. But the plug would still have to energize the main fuel pump relay.

Piranha 09-15-02 03:40 PM

Okay, I got it. I think one of the fuel pump relay plugs in the front wasn't plugged in all the way. I just pushed like a madman on the 2 plugs, turned the key, and bam, heard it running. And boy did that fuel pump sound good. Thanks Scott.
