Fuel sock?
So my '87 non-turbo loses power if I try and do a left handed doughnut, burnout, or if I take a left handed turn really sharp. I filled up to make sure I wasn't just low on petrol, but it still does it. I've searched and read that it could be my fuel sock, but how *exactly* does that work, if I've got a full tank and the sock is always submerged? I also read with some searching, that, if could be inadequate baffling in the tank...but that still doesn't make sense with a full tank of gas.
I've pulled out the fuel filter assembly and looked at the sock. While it doesn't look new, it doesn't look absolutely filthy. It's an alleged $15.00 expense, which I will do most likely this next pay-day, but I want thoughts from you guys about what else could be the problem. It's starting to piss me off, and I was going to be looking into Autocrossing this car fairly soon. But, if I can't take a sharp left turn without the motor cutting off, then that kinda puts a snag in my times, huh? :wallbash: Discuss. |
Over time the materials break down and it's able to suck part of the sock right up against the pump inlet, making it suck through a much smaller area of screen, reducing flow, cutting power. Just trust me, it's the sock, it fits the description.

Black91 is correct. My n/a almost died on left turns when I first got it. It was among the first repairs I made to the car. Fixed it with a new sock.
