fuel pump problems
 
so today i finally finished everything for me s4 gxl to s5 turbo swap
hooked the battery up went into the car and turned the key for the first time in half a year. the motor turns over and voer and over. i think it might be a timing issue but i narrow that out. So i check the fuel line, turn the key on and off for a while and no fuel is being pumped. I bought the s4 turbo fuel pump, but my question is. do i need the turbo fuel pump relay? do i need the inertia relay? please help my baby has been sitting forever and i want to drive her asap!!!:)

There may be an emergency fuel cut-off somewhere, if one of the older members can shed any light on that. Other than that, use a multi-meter and check to make sure the fuel pump is getting power, and that all the wiring is correct.

yeah, i was reading up on the emergency cut off, i believe its located somewhere in the dash. does anyone on here know some info on that?

The fuel pump does not work by just putting the key to ON.

im thinking it might be a relay, me and my dad have been performing tests all morning.
anyone ever had this prob before? anyoneeee?

The fuel pump works when the key is HELD to START, or the engine is acutally running.

The fuel pump is powered by the Circuti Opening Relay above your knees and steering shaft. The Circuit Opening Relay is powered by the Engine fuse which in turn is powered by the key being to Ign (On). The Circuit Opening Relay might have power but won't pull in unless the relay gets a ground. IF the engine is running, the gnd comes from a micro switch in the AFM. Push the vane in the afm aft a touch, with the key ON, and the pump should run.

There are actually two coils that operate the Circuit Opening Relay. One coil has a gnd all the time and it's power comes from putting the key to START, and holding the key to START. Then the relay will pull in and the fuel pump will run if the ENGINE fuse is good.

An alternate way to make the fuel pump run is to jumper the Fuel Pump Check Connector in the engine bay, near the right front strut tower. Yellow in color and two sockets. You just jumper the two sockets together with a piece of wire and if the key is ON, the Circuit Opening Relay pulls in and the pump runs. Jumpering that connector does nothing more than what the micro switch in the afm does i.e. puts a gnd on the Circuit Opening Relay to pull the relay in to operate the fuel pump.

Jumper that yellow connector and if the pump does not run, then most likely the ENGINE fuse is blown.

Wiring diagrams are online and free for a download by anyone.

If you used the series four non turbo EM harness on the engine (where else would one use it), then everything should work and start up. You don't need a turbo fuel pump/resistor relay package. 'Even a stock non turbo pump would work for basic running/idling.

I understand the JDM turbo engines have their fuel lines ass backwards from the USA versions. I'd pull the line off that comes from the fuel filter and leave it off while someone turns the key to On and the fuel pump check connector is jumpered. Fuel should flow from the fuel line from the filter. If it does, then swap the Pressure and the Return lines where they connect to the engine and try starting again. No start? Then remove the RETURN line from the engine and have someone try to start the engine. Fuel should flow from the hard line the rubber return line was attached to. If not, and fuel did flow from the fuel filter, then somehow the lines on top of the engine are wrong. The last thing in the system is the outlet of the FPR that goes to the Return line.

If you used a Turbo EM harness on the non turbo car, that MIGHT be the problem if the wiring has not been adjusted in that EM harness from the Turbo car.
