fuel pump!

well im pretty new here.. and yeah i just got a rx-7 2nd gen(1986) from my friend and yeah it doesnt start i did most of the common diagnostics

I already checked:
fuel
spark plugs
oil
battery
fuses

but it seems that i took out the incoming fuel line that goes into the block
and see if gas pours into it.. and it doesnt..so im wondering what would be the problem

i already bought a universal fuel pump..
but it seems that doesnt power up from the line going to the old pump

i spliced the required wires and re-attached them to the unversal fuel pump

so can you guys help me out.. i would love to drive my rx-7 around!

uh, are you sure it's not flooded? read the FAQ

Aiden671 12-03-07 01:15 AM

nah its not flooding some gas in the tank.. but yeah.. it seems to only drip out of the fuel hose leading to the block.. but i dont know how to use the universal fuel pump..

cause a rx7 isnt as easy as some other cars!
its hard man

i serisouly.. need help cause thats gonna be my main and first car ever!

on the driver side's side there is a yellow two prong connector coming off the engine harness, near the strut tower. jumper the two terminals together with the car off and the key in the on position, that's your fuel pump check connector. you should hear the pump running if it works and obviously fuel will be flowing through the feed line.

and you should have replaced it with a used stock fuel pump. You could get one right now used for like $30 or something and it will fit right in without any bullshit. nonturbo rx-7s, unless heavily modded, are fine with the stock pump.

Aiden671 12-03-07 01:25 AM

hmm maybe i should check that tomorrow.. cause yeah.. this car has alot of work..

hmm well its like 75 bucks for a rebuilt fuel pump here on guam.. and yeah i need some help with the door hinges..

i heard thats a common problem among rx-7s

well.. where is the fuel pump located in a rx7 2nd gen 1986

arghx 12-03-07 01:27 AM

you need to read the factory service manual in the FAQ. fuel pump is located under the rear carpet, beneath a panel towards the driver's side. There are wires going to it. You can remove it with a simple screwdriver.

But if you have not pulled out your stock pump yet, you need to use that check connector I mentioned. If you hear the pump running it should be fine and you have another problem.

Aiden671 12-03-07 01:31 AM

hmm well i it seems kinda stupid of me.. but if i did it wrong.. then i guess im a real dumbass!

but the fuel pump is located in the gas tank to the driver side in the trunk space..

so did i get that right atleast?

brandonn 12-03-07 02:04 AM

yea the fuel pump is in the back of the car. you gotta lift the carpet up and unbolt to get access to it if i remember correctly

http://www.cochran-racing.com/FSM/index.html

but its definitely in the service manual

Aiden671 12-03-07 02:24 AM

well im cheap.. and yeah.. i need that car to run..
and i bought a unversal fuel pump

do you know how to install it?

cause i dont know where to start

Did you jumper the fuel test connector? That would be a cheaper fix then that silly universal FP you just bought.
