Fuel problem: or lack of it at least. Help Appreciated.
 

Car: 1987 NA, 15k on rebuild.

Info: Replaced main and return hard lines from firewall to tank over the winter. Went to check for leaks and no fuel seems to be flowing.

Check 1: I put gas in the tank, hooked up the battery, turned the key to on, and jumpered the yellow check connector. I could hear the solenoids clicking but nothing else.

Check 2: Let the sytem de-pressurize if indeed it did work last time. Loosened banjo bolt on top rail near firewall, turned key to on, jumpered yellow check connector, and waited for fuel to spurt out. Nothing came out.

Check 3: Checked to see if lines were installed backwards. If my picuture is correct then they are installed correctly. I checked the FSM but found it to be not so clear in that area.

I tried searching the past couple nights when I had time, but can't seem to find solid results.

I'm hoping this thread can provide a few options to try so next time I can try 2-3-4 things and see what works. This is my last resort. Thanks guys in advance if you can help.

check your fuel pump, when you jump the yellow plug and put the switch to on fuel should flow like it would with the car runing. you should not only hear the clicks.

Thanks, but how does one check a fuel pump?

I thought since I did this over winter maybe condensation built up in the line and froze, or maybe my pump magically died after I stored it. Just looking for a few options to try since I've covered the first couple steps I've read in most the other threads.

Make sure that you don't have the fuel lines connected backwards (return line connected to pressure side and visa versa).

check for voltage at the pump first.

I posted the pic of how my lines are, if someones agrees that the pic is right then they are setup right.

I guess checking the pump just means taking a meter to the + wire going to the pump and checking voltage?

Whether the lines are connected backwards or not is not the problem at this point. With ignition on and fuel pump jumper connected, the pump should run. You should get power to the pump on the harness side. If that is working, apply power directly to the pump to see if the pump is bad. The FSM shows (+) being the blue wire, (-) black. GL

I took a meter to the blue wire and black. it read 11.2V-11.3V with the yellow check connector jumpered and without it jumpered.

I guess the only next step is to check the actual pump?

Yes, sounds like the pump. Apply power to it directly to make sure it's not just a bad ground/connection.

Well guys I'm back, needless to say still no flow:

I took the whole pump assembly out today, I sheared only 1 of the pump cover screws, I guess it could be worse..

Hooked the pump directly to the battery and it hummed and was "torquey" when I would turn it on and off with the wires. So from I was told it is working fine.

So re-cap:

I jumpered the yellow connector, I could hear the solenoids working, but no flow. I checked all the fuses and they are all fine. As told here, I got my meter and checked the blue wire + and read 11.2-11.3 v consistently. I took the pump out and connected it directly to the battery and that also worked fine.

I don't know what else is left.

Help?

Any more advice out there?
