Fuel Pressure Regulator

I'm not sure if anyone has covered this but;
what are some good indications of a bad FPR?
and what are some symptoms of an FPR going out?

I'm leaning towards a fuel problem, the car wants to just idle, I can barely raise the RPMs above 1500. i've got good fuel pressure, had the injectors cleaned, replaced the fuel filter, and I couldn't see any fuel leaks either.

Install a fuel pressure gauge, and it'll be obvious.

Your confusing some of us. You just stated you have good fuel pressure. If you have good fuel pressue the fpr is good. Tapping in a fuel pressure gauge like was stated above is the only way to know for sure.

At idle the pressure should be about 28-30psi and if you idle and pull off the vacuum hose from the fpr the pressure should be about 37-39 psi.

If it idles fairly decently and won't rev above 1500 it might be a corrupt tps. Disconnect it and try again.

You real sure your sparkplug wires are on right? Your timing is spot on? Using a timing light?

I checked the fuel pressure before the FPR, while the car was off. I have checked the spark and I had decent spark too. The TPS though, I ran a couple of tests from the book. The TPS ohmed out fine and it swept fine through opened and closed throttle. There could be something else that I;m missing. I'm pretty sure the timing is fine, because it was driveable before; I was driving when this started to happen. The car was fine up to that point.

There isn't a "limp-home" mode on RX-7's right?

Only on series five. None on series four that I'm aware of.
