fuel level sender
Anybody know if fuel level senders are interchangeable from s4 to s5? I have a 90 vert and i pulled a fuel level sender out of an s4 at a junk yard and didnt want to waste time taking mine out if it isnt going to work.

The tank size is different between S4 and S5, so it may read a bit off.

The tank size doesn't matter, as the sensors output the same resistance regardless of the series or engine. However, the wiring is different I believe. It would be easier to find one from the same series, but you could make another work.

Alright id rather not change wiring so ill just buy an s5.

Yes, the sensor resistance outputs are the same. I replaced my sender a while back and checked both manuals. I believe they are the same at full, medium, and empty.

That's why I think the S4 will be off in a S5 tank. The s4 tank is shorter then the s5 tank. So if you put a S4 fuel pump assembly into a S5 it will not draw the last couple gallons of fuel.
Meaning the S4 fuel level sender should be shorter then the S5 fuel level sender. Thus in a S5 tank the S4 should read empty faster then the S5 sender because the sender will think its at empty before its truly the case. Catch my drift? Sometimes I suck at explaining things.... |
^Understood. I'm not 100% on the "depth" of the tanks. That's the key there. Fortunately, it's not a common issue ;)
