fuel leak for over 6years...

So, I have had a fuel leak that I did not know about for over 6years. It is one of the rubber hose's that goes from the fuel filter to the engine. Didn't know about it until my buddy and I took the engine out and checked everything. So my question is, can I just use any rubber line to replace it? or should I order a OEM line for it.

Any properly sized flexible FUEL line should work, not just any old rubber hose. Most parts stores can sell you suitable stuff by the foot for not a lot of money. Might be a good idea to replace the clamps with new fuel line clamps, too. Don't use the screw type clamps, they don't clamp evenly and can tear into the hose, either issue can cause leaks.

a proper rubber fuel line from any autopart store will work.
Get fuel line clamps, havent had any problems with these. Just dont over tighten and get it in the right size

^ I use the clamps above. I've had no problems with them. Try not to strip the threads, though!

As what has already been stated, you should be able to get fuel hose at just about any auto parts store. Be very sure that it is rated for fuel injection systems... Or you'll have more than a problem leak.

i was already have clamps on there. That was the first thing I swapped out on all the hoses, I replaced them with clamps. I will check out a few places. Thanks for the info guys.

I changed my fuel filter a few months ago, The fuel system is under constant pressure, up to 90lbs on the turbo2. I dont know what the pressure is for the n/a, but I would'nt risk it! I didnt use just any rubber fuel hose for my fc, only a high pressure fuel hose.

PEOPLE!

not just any fuel hose will do... it must be HIGH PRESSURE FUEL INJECTION HOSE!

i've seen people use low pressure carburetor hose before and that stuff is a wet noodle, fire hazard waiting to happen. could pretty much pull the hoses off the lines by hand without much force.

and people don't understand why i get so upset all the time.. well that and i'm working on a holiday.

Will look into getting a high pressure fuel line. All this info is great!

When you go to the parts store look into getting a haynes repair manual. It will pay for itself preventing you from making a costly error. It has specs on nearly every aspect of the car....including fuel pressure.

I have one..sadly it is locked in my trunk. And I can't open it because I have S5 Tails from the hardtop fc, and the cable is stretched out. So as of right now I have no way of opening it.

Clark13b 11-24-11 01:23 PM

Sorry to hear that, the vert doesnt have a key hole for the trunk?

epic 11-24-11 01:57 PM

The stock tail lights do, they are much shorter and have the hole. But when I got the car, the old owner had the s5 tails from a hardtop swapped in. They are much longer then the Vert ones. And I will admit they do look nice on on the vert, but now my only two choices are to cut a hole where the lience plate is, or crack the tail lights and open it that way. I don't want to do either of them.

several people didn't, more mentioned regular crap fuel hose than not. the workers at most chain auto parts stores will grab whatever is in front of them if you do not specify the application.

as for the vert issue, there should be a small access panel behind the driver's seat. not large enough for you to fit through but maybe enough to go fishing through. unfortunately i think it screws on from inside the trunk but might be able to push it through, i don't have a vert in the shop to take a look at however.

I will dig in more into this. I'm glad that the car didn't catch fire when I used to smoke.

Karack, I thought I posted that bit about fuel injection hose earlier. I'm using the my phone and forgot to submit the post though!

The fuel injection hose will most likely say SAE 30R9 on it

O.o awesome arg! Thanks!

epic 11-24-11 04:43 PM

Ill relook for that panel. If I can push it and somehow grab the latch I should be able to pop it open. Thanks.
