Fuel Leak Crazy Weird??
 

Hey guys, Before I explain I did do a search and didnt get anything to explain this.

First Car Backround

87TII Minor Mods, Intake, and Exhaust
Complete ratsnest removal, no AC or PS, basicly motor and turbo, NO oil metering pump or anything like that. Do have block off plates and removed fuel system "junk" with rats nest.

The problem is when the temp outside is around 20f or lower on a cold start this thing will pour fuel in engine bay around the lines/fpr, injectors. It leaks and makes a puddle on ground. Fuel flows along the back of the block and drips off bottom of tranny area. It doesnt do it any other time and thats whats so wierd. Has this happened to anyone else? With out tearing it completely apart I cant remember off the top of my head if I removed the PD and banjoed it or not? But its gotta be coming from around there somewhere? Any Ideas?? Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure how temperature plays into that, but if I were in your place I would rip off the manifolds and check:

- soft fuel line to the primary injector rail
- soft fuel line from the primary rail to the secondary rail
- soft fuel line from the secondary rail to the return piping
- damaged o-ring on the top of one or more injectors
- damaged/externally leaking PD

How old are the rubber fuel lines? Temperature affects the elasticity of rubber, which can mean an old hose that doesn't normally leak at operating temp can suddenly leak when it's nearly frozen stiff.

I wonder what the purpose of the fuel pump check connector is in life.

do not continue to drive the vehicle this way.

remove the upper intake manifold and pressurize the fuel system, replace all leaking o-rings/hoses/tighten hose clamps.

If you can't remember then you probably didn't replace the PD.

PD gets a crush washer I believe, plus your injector o-rings could be to blame. You'd be well off to replace the PD anyway, and while you do it replace those o-rings and make sure all your hose clamps are up to snuff. I had a leaky hose from a poor clamp and it started an engine fire. Fortunately I staved off serious damage with my trusty fire extinguisher.

All of the fuel system components are less than 2 years old, minus the injectors themselfs, when the motor was rebuilt. I guess ill rip the mani off, but I will have to wait til its 20 out to check it.
