Fuel Injector Replacement
I'm looking to replace my fuel injectors. I've read multiple threads on "quick" fixes to cold start flooding (or flooding in general), but have decided I wanna fix the root problem, leaky injectors.
My symptoms are basically this.... Cold starts are hit or miss, sometimes it will fire right up, other times I have to pull the EGC (or ECG or whatever it is) fuse, turn it over a few times and then it will fire right up. Warm starts it basically fires right up with a little pump of the gas peddle. From what I read the mazda warm start isnt the best, hense the pumping of the gas peddle The questions I have are: How much time can I expect the replacement to take (I have an '87 n/a) ? Any recommendations on replacement injectors? I'm looking to stay close to stock. Other tips or tricks I should know about? Thanks in advance. |
How do you know the injectors are leaking? Are you sure the engine has good compression? Low compression is the other likely cause of flooding. Do a compression test to be sure.
If you want to clean the injectors, remove them and have it professionally done. There's no need to buy new injectors unless an actual fault is found with one of yours. Mazda's warm start is fine unless something is broken or worn out, and you shouldn't need to touch the gas pedal during cold or hot starting. Be careful with what you read. Some people get confused between inherent problems and problems caused by old, worm components. |
if you have them cleaned rc engineering will clean and flow test them theyre great !
|
The reason I was going with new ones is because I heard cleaning them was almost as expensive? I guess I should do some more research. I'll check the compression. Can I check it the same way you do in a piston engine?
|
New injectors will cost far more than having yours cleaned.
Here's how to check compression: http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...ion_check.html |
I need fuel injectors too. Are they expensive to replace or send in for repairs?

KJGParts will clean and test them for $12.50 per injector including new o-rings, pintle caps, grommets, filter baskets & return shipping. They will come back in need of paint though as it will be stripped in the cleaning process.

Is it an involved process to remove all the injectors?
How long can I expect to get them out? |
www.deatschwerks.com Basic Service plus flow report 16$ per injector, replaces all seals, filters, orings, plus injectors are coil tested and ohm Tested.

...paint? what paint? My injectors didn't have any paint on them. |
I sent mine to RC Engineering. Those guys are great. got them back in a week

Try running some techron through your fuel system with a full tank of gas, then report back.
|
Techron seems easy. I'll try that first. Unfortunately, I dont drive the car a heck of a lot. So it may be a week before I can report back on it.

We have special pricing for club members on Injector cleaning from www.kgparts.com that can be found in the GB section. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=kgparts pricing is about half of what RC charges for the same service. ;) |
