In a bind right now, I'm trying to find time to rebuild an engine and take the wife to the doctor, and make a breakot plug for the ECU, and replace the drivers door handle on the wife's car, and get the title straightened out on the turbo car, and pay the bills that have been laying on top of the desk, and.......

Well basically I reposted those instructions because someone else had expressed a lack of understanding of my point. Im not here to be your motivational leader, Im just trying to give advice I think will help you fix your cars. Mine runs fine.

In reference to my last two posts, I drove the car with a gallon or less this morning without having it cut off and then back on. This was with a new used pump. Hard left. Tires a squeeling. Did it twice. Even then I'm still skeptical that the pump had much to do with it. The old pump I checked out less than a month ago and it had good pressure per the manual and the fuel rails had good pressure per the manual. There is no defect in the fuel pump hose in the tank. But then again you can't argue with success. When I said a gallon or less, the needle was just below the bottom hash mark, fuel caution lite had been on forever.

boy,as far as grinding the heads off...i'm not real sure draining the tank is nesseserely the best thing to do....fuel vapor is much more flammable then gas in liquid form,and,with an empy tank,you have a lot more vapors hangi'n around.just be real carefull!!maybe you could spray a layer of fire extingisher foam on the area...i dunno

ps:i also have this same problem..left turns only.once i get my new motor back in the car,and everything runs good,i will start experimenting with different solutions

Thank you Hailers. It looks like you have hit it. I am going to check the connectors first, in case it was the process of removal & installation that fixed it. If the problem persists, then the pump. When I get around to putting in accessory gauges, they will include fuel pressure. Thanks again.

In ref to my above posts....I installed the new pump from the wreck yard. It does not cut off in left turns. Violent left turns. The pump that came out of the car I put in another car and that car cuts out in left turns now, when it did not before. I thought what a bunch of bull. I know that pump is good because I had done a pressure test on it. Well when I took that pump out of the tank, I noticed something. The filter screen which is about 3x3 on the inlet, was retaining the gas inside it as I held it in mid air. It was leaking out the screen but not very fast. I'm quite sure that is what is causing the problem. I compared it to the new one out of the wreck yard and that one the gas poured out of much faster. I plan to take the screen off and reinstall it and see what the results are. The whole problem seems to be the lack of flow thru the filter screen .Thats my story and I'm sticking with it.

Before we close this thread. Has anyone replaced there fuel pump filter with a new one to see if its really the problem. Don't get me wrong I hope it is but I need dis problem solved. I feel like I'm a nascar driver when I can only race on a circular track clock wise.

Sorry, I whacked my fuel gauge needle...noticed this...

I removed and replaced the filter attatched to the base of the fuel pump and it cured my 91 TIIs problem of going around hard left turns no matter the amount of gas in the tank.

So if some newbie is reading this and has experienced this, go spend the 15 dollars and fix your car.

Yep. A new one or wash and soak the original in Acetone overnite will do the job. The fine mesh filter will hold gas inside, but it should dribble out at a good rate. A clogged or one that is *varnished up* will just barely let the fuel dribble out as you hold it in mid air.

I can't believe there is two pages of this thread and only on the last page someone said clean the in-tank fuel filter.

That is basic japanese car repair 101!!!

Clean and/or replace the filters including the in-tank filter!!!

We're in no rush here. Lots of time. Its more than just cleaning in the general sense. It seems to be a clear varnish substance. Needs to be desolved.

Try replacing your fuel sock thats attached to the fuel pump, I've had this problem with both my turbo's.

What is a good method to clean the in tank filter?

This issue comes up for FC owners. Some have said it's the filter or fuel slosh, but doubtful. It's probably an electrical problem. I've had this happen to me a few times. It happened during a hard left and low gas, but it's also happened on a full tank and taking an uphill right, so I'm leaning towards electrical gremlin.

and it is covered in the FAQ for FC :( 99% of the time it is a clogged fuel sock in the gas tank, the other 1% it is rusted out baffles in the gas tank.

But why clean it, just replace the fuel sock. They are under $20 at most parts stores.
