Friend Just Bought A 7 For $150...

The problem is, it has everything but an engine! Where's the best place to buy an engine? It's a '90 SE so he needs a 13B, preferably turbo'd.

marlaman 08-16-04 12:57 AM

is it a TII body? because if your'e looking to upgrade a n/a chassis to a TII that's a lot of work, unless that's the sole reason why you bought it. find sombody who has an engine core, order that and then have it rebuilt by kevin landers at rotary reserruction. good luck pal.

Matt:)

Dake 08-16-04 01:23 AM

I don't know if it's a turbo body or not.

locketine 08-16-04 01:28 AM

you'd know....... like it would say turbo on it and it would would have a hood scoop. find a core at a recking yard near you or order one from..... uh, just do a search, there are plenty of links to places that sell JSPEC or reman 13b's.

cafcwest 08-16-04 01:40 AM

there was no SE in 1990

zjbarra 08-16-04 01:52 AM

What do the wheels look like?

Dake 08-16-04 01:59 AM

it's got 4 lug phone dialers. I was told it's a 90, but what years did they make the se?

BlaCkPlaGUE 08-16-04 02:12 AM

Well if the hood has a scoop in it, most 'likely' its a turbo chasis. Also check the dash for a boost gauge, shit like that.

Dake 08-16-04 02:13 AM

it's not a turbo, we know that for sure. would I be able to put a turbo 13b in seamlessly? or would I need to do some mods?

Dake 08-16-04 02:36 AM

also, how do you tell the difference between 88, 89 and 90 rx7's? I am starting the think this car is an 88, not a 90.

crashdummy 08-16-04 02:52 AM

its an 86 base

s5 models didnt come with phone dials

Dake 08-16-04 02:57 AM

are you sure that's correct? did they make SE's in 86?

Beat me to it. Best bet is get a used J-spec from some importer and get some help with the swap. I live in Richland, Dr.jone83 lives in Richland, too and I can, he may, be able to help with it.

cafcwest 08-16-04 09:32 AM

the SE was a 1988 model only.

Agent_D 08-16-04 09:35 AM

just look at the build date on the door jamb, its a series 4, 86-88, as they said, no phone dial 4 lug rims in series 5 89-91.

I have an '86 SE...

The car in my avatar picture is a S4. So does your front look like that? Or you can just get the VIN and someone can run it for you.

Is there an 87 SE model? Or really just an 88 SE model only?

Molotovman 08-16-04 01:31 PM

Your friend has either an 86 or 87 base model. look on the inside of the drivers side doorframe.

Dake 08-16-04 04:48 PM

Can't you guys just agree?

CrossfireCurt 08-16-04 07:16 PM

Why don't you just run the damn vin number?

d7n7master 08-16-04 07:24 PM

I was just gonna say - go to kbb.com & enter the vin. It's FREE! :)

You could always look at the title of the vehicle. It comes with it when you buy a car. He DID get the title, right?
