that's your port air solenoid valve- it shouldn't have had any voltage going to it unless your 20K mile switch was screwed (should be no prob with it out of service)

AcidShock 05-02-04 10:57 PM

Haha, how did that thing get toasted anyways?

The Spyder 05-02-04 10:59 PM

My coolant fill necks plastic cracked and leaked antifreeze on it, went up in smoke, toasted the wires right off it.

Ok to leave it then?

Unless your car is under 20K miles, do not worry about it.

90k on this motor, 225k on the body

SiGmA_X 05-02-04 11:22 PM

I thought it was 9k on the motor??

No, not quite right. It always has 12v going to it on the black/white wire. These solenoids work by having a ground put on them by the ECU. That Port Air Solenoid is disabled at 20,000 miles by the ECU not putting a ground on it anymore after that figure. The black/white wire will always have 12v on it.

I'd suspect that the harness has been twisted and abused at where it enters the sensor and finally the black/white touched a ground *somewhere*.

Since the Port Air Solenoid is not used after 20,000 miles....then just disconnect the plug for it and tie it back.
