Free Anti-theft . . How?

I searched. Maybe I couldn't find the right keywords? Anyway, I want to prevent my car from starting for anti-theft purposes. Is there a fuse I can pull or something? It should be free, quick and easy yet deterring for a car theif. Be specific on any suggestions. I'm a newbie;)

Thanks, Brock

u can do a number of things!
~ pull a spark plug wire
~ put a fuel cut off switch
~ pull main fuse under hood ( not recommended ) ;)
there may be more but someone else would know

Unplug the fuel pump - (fuse or connector on driver's side rear shock tower)

If you have theft insurance on your car, a lot of insurance companies will install starter kill switches for free - your rate should decrease slightly as well. Talk to your insurer.

pull the EFI fuse from under the hood.

Put your car on blocks and take the wheels with you when you park. :p:

Anti-theft / Flooding Switch

This is what I did with my 2gen Tii to eliminate a flooding problem and it doubles as a theft deterrent. find your fuel pump wires. should be in the trunk area. cut the black ground wire and install an ON/OFF switch. in the trunk area preferably-so who ever wants to steal your car won't figure it out as quickly. or where ever you can hide it. and this won't set or affect any codes on you ECU.

Pretty simple actually, when I get the chance I'm gonna finish doing my car. All you really need to do is wire up a switch (note this can also be useful for racing to cut off the alternator...BUT remember to turn it back on) that will prevent power from reaching the solenoid w/out that switch being flipped. If the starter solenoid doesn't get any power the car WILL NOT start no matter how hard you try. If they want the car they're gonna have to do a clutch pop and NOBODY wants a car that bad, plus that's kinda obvious looking. Hope that helps, I'm too busy right now but it's pretty straight forward, also MAKE SURE you use a large gauge wire (the same as the battery wire) otherwise it won't last long anyway. To me that's the only way to get real anti theft, hell my car doors have been unlocked for eons of time (the lock is broken), and the car is still there (I don't have a stereo so I don't worry about anything being taken).

They make battery terminals that have a screw with a plastic handle on them and all you do is unscrew it and there is no power to the car and they cant remove them unless the have tools.

KiyoKix 01-06-03 02:49 PM

That's too easy though, I think that's pretty much on the same vein as the car alarm. Car alarms are pretty worthless to me, all they do is let you know which way your car just went w/out you. :D

That would work if you are going to leave your car for a long time (like at an airport), but for everyday theft-deterrance it isn't practical, besides, you'd have to reset your radio stations every time! If I was a thief, and I got into a car, and there was NO power at all, the first thing I'd do is look under the hood. You want the dash to light up, or even let the engine crank - just not start.

Here is what you do. Take a heavy duty phono plug for 1/4" mono connector. instead of the left and right going to speakers, one would go to the positive terminal on your fuel pump or fuel pump relay or something like it, the other on the ground side. Here is the cool part. Put a hole in your dash and have the female 1/4" connector is available to plug into. Now go get the male counterpart and attach it to your keychain. This way the only way you can start the car is with your ignition key and your fuel pump "key". Granted all of your friends will know, but if it gets stolen you know who you can track down.

Tell me if that's a stupid idea.

hehehe, that's a pretty good idea, i think... have you actually done it? or is it just an idea?

OMG i think thats probably one of the coolest ideas i have ever heard.

as far as going through all that trouble to modify the alternator wiring, there is a much simpler way to disable the starter. the power lead to the starter runs through the ignition switch (obviously, or else turning the key wouldnt do anything) on my 88 i had a heavy duty switch in this wire that disabled the starter. i had it tucked into the center console behind a hide-away panel where the radio would have been if i had a radio.
not to mention the fuel pump cutoff switch which was in my armrest.

Here is a step by step anti-theft system that requires no work on your car.

1. Buy a .50 cal sniper rifle

2. Shoot the punk ass that trys to steal your car right between the eyes.

3. Tell cops it was a defensive act and you felt your life was threatend.

4. Dont worry about car anymore, Punk ass dead guy's homies know not to mess with your car anymore.

5. Go to Krispy Kremes and get yourself a donut.....cuz they are good.

The best legal antitheft sytem is a fuel pump cutoff switch or something to that effect. It doesnt take that long to make and cost $10 in parts.

fuel pump cut off switch.

pull the EGI fuse.

intensionally flood the engine

if you have a safc... you can tune the idle to subtract as much fuel as possible... the punk will never figure out how to start the car.

But undoubtably he'd take the safc, so your screwed either way :p:

FUEL PUMP SWITCH and STARTER MOTOR SWITCH. (you'd prolly need the starter to be in some kind of protective case so that cant jus go underneath and start with a screw driver) also make your car look as fucked up as you can. ex: my car has diff color fender, diff color dorr handle, cracked tail light, rust sunroof, primer spots and bondo spots. BUT ITS FAST AS FUCK.
