FP Rewire Necessary?

I have an 88 N/T. At WOT, my A/F gauge shows the first 2-3 bars rich. Shouldn't I be seeing full rich at WOT? I've been trying to track this down for a long time, and it's gotten a little better (used to only have 0-1 bars rich at WOT).

I've added extra grounds, new fuel filter, etc. etc. Today I checked the voltage at the fuel pump @ WOT. It was in the 11 to 12v range (w/ no electrical load except for the windshield wipers). Is that OK, or should I see at least 12v -- if not 13 or 14?

I know that because it's not a turbo, it's not a critical, but I would like to know if it'd make a difference. Thanks for all the help so far!

Just read a Third Generation post called *A/f gauge reading?* by xswlr8nrx7. You might want to read it. It seems relevant. I put in *gauge* in the search engine on this site and it was among the first ten or so. Good luck. Hope someone answers your post soon.

RAENNER.....There is a post that might be relevant to your situation on this site. Its about the car dying in hard cornering. I thought it was just fuel slosh but that is not the case. I put in another fuel pump from the wreck yard and it did not do it. The problem I found is the strainer on the pump. Its so fine that it clogs up and you can remove the pump from the tank and the fuel trapped inside the filter will be real slow to dribble out . I'm thinking your problem is a restricted screen on the pump. All the fuel pressure checkout will look just fine because there is no real demand for flow. I think when you are wot the screen is preventing the proper flow. What do you think? I have not yet tried to clean the strainer on my pump. Too tied up right now. By the way, during the testing I did, the fuel gauge was on the empty hash mark, probably a gallon or less. One pump would stall the car, the other pump with the same fuel level would not.

Thanks for the good info. I didn't even expect any more replies to this thread. Anyways, things have been really busy for the past couple weeks (school starting up) but I'll definitely have to find time to check those fuel pump issues.

Thanks again.

89+ pump won't fit in a 86-88, different. you should not be seeing full rich. if you were you would have less power. I'm sure it's fine where it is besides you can't trust a A/F gauge anyways.

I've got a pump from my 87T2 if you're still in need.

Those A/F gauges with the bars aren't very accurate. My car always runs richer than the gauge says I'm running.
